Because of some incompetent booking at book.com (lost previous reservations at our other hotel) we found ourselves having to accept a room at the Royal St Charles 'boutique' hotel in New Orleans.

There is nothing particularly 'bad' about this property, however, it just wasn't what we were looking for.

The room was described at a 'queen room' but it was the size of our walk-in closet, and the bathroom was not much bigger than what we oldtimers (and that is what you feel like if your over 50 in this hotel) used to call a phone booth. The bed was a full size, and a small one at that.

There are no services offered by the hotel per se; the maid service was adequate.

We stayed on the ninth floor where all the teenagers (read: 17-25 year-olds behaving badly and loudly) stayed. We were invited to call the police on one occasion, but that's not who we are, so one night we simply waited from 2:30-5AM for things to settle down.

On a brighter note, the desk team was always professional and cordial, and as helpful as they could be given that the hotel offers little. Reservations for dinner were cheerfully made, and all information given was very accurate.

The location of the hotel is spectacular, not that you can see much from it (we had NO window in our room). Because we love to walk for exercise (and you'll want to do that if you plan on eating in this city built on shrimp stilts and glued together with etouffee), we were delighted that we could roll out of bed and be on Canal St in minutes. And there you have it, the St Charles Hotel in a nutshell: it kisses the French Quarter between Bourbon and Decatur streets and spits to the Riverwalk and Convention Center toward the river.

There are so many hotels in NOLA, and so many right next to this hotel; it's amazing book.com couldn't get it right the first time. We could have had the same location with a modicum of elegance.

Still, in New Orleans it's (big) easy to make lemonade from lemons.

If you don't mind sleeping in a closet as children (or the childish) revel outside your door, give the St Charles consideration. We thought we would miss all that, as we came after Mardi Gras; who knew that every week is spring break, St Patrick's Day, etc. in this town?

I seldom take time to write reviews but since I traevl so much for work and stay at so many hotels I had to write a good review for this hotel. It was clean, comfortable, and convenient! The staff was friendly. We arrived at 11:30am after driving for 13 hours from North Carolina and they had a room ready for us. It was even an upgrade to a King from a Queen for no extra charge. After staying at a few other hotels in New Orleans which were not up to par, I would absolutely stay at this hotel again!

When we arrived to the hotel we were greeted by the most cheerful front desk agent,Chelsea, she was very pleasant and helpful while checking in for our first time at the Royal St. Charles. The lobby had a GREAT stylish deco which seemed very inviting from the multiple sitting areas to the convienent coffee lounge,PJ's. After a long flight I was very pleased to have such a plush comfy bed..it was AMAZING!! The room was impecably clean and had such a home-style feel it didnt feel like we were in a hotel. Had an amazing view of the city and the location of hotel was walking distance to french quarter!! Even thou theres no room service...its not needed soo many restaurants are feet away from hotel, which the staff was very helpful in directing us even when multiple guests were in lobby. There's also a directory of many local spots that will deliver food to hotel and gets discounts,We did ask for fridge for our room which the housekeeping staff delivered promptly. Also Frederico, our lobby concierge, was sooo helpful in every way possible. He gave us so much info to the best local spots to eat, tours, music, museums, etc. even had maps which he sat with us to ensure we would not get lost!!! Even after a long day of walking it was great to have PJ's in lobby to get a lil snack to take back to our room...coffee,lattes,pastries sandwiches and KING CAKE!! Their manager,Brandy, went above & beyond to help her staff & make sure we were pleased with every item each day we purchased at PJ's. We also had the priveledge to meet the GM,Lori Foret, which was was not in an office but right in the lobby making sure our stay was going well. Very pleasing to see a quaint hotel takes soo much pride and sincerity in its' guests. I TOTALLY recommend the Royal St. Charles to friends, family and anyone looking for a hotel in New Orleans. The week I spent at hotel was so comfortable I will definitely revisit this hotel..all the staff made you feel like a home away from home!!

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Royal St. Charles. We were greated by friendly staff upon check in & staff was very helpful with directions to areas that we wanted to visit. The lobby is contemporary art deco, which we enjoyed. We were surprisingly upgraded to a Jr. Suite which had a seperate sitting area with another tv and a lot of windows. The regular rooms that I glanced in while walking down the hall were much smaller. If you are willing to pay the extra money, I think it would be worth it at this hotel. The hotel was in a great oacation. Very close to Bourbon St. We walked the entire French Quarter while we were there & never took public transportation except for to & from the airport. The streetcar runs out in front of the hotel if you prefer to do that. Overall we were vary happy with our stay & would definately return.

Room Tip: Ask for an exterior roo with a window.

If you don't need a closet, but location is important than this hotel might work well for you. If this would have been a fun, leisure trip I wouldn't have missed the closet. There are rooms that do not have external windows, so if you need to see the street, then make sure you ask if your room has a street view and which street it faces. Parking in all of the hotels can be kind of pricey, so if you can walk a little, then there is cheaper parking at local parking garage facilities. The room was a comfortable size. If you book through a third party agency, then be advised you will be charged a daily services fee above and beyond your room rate.

Room Tip: If you are expecting a street view, make sure you ask where or not your room has a street view and o...

This hotel is in a great location to bourbon street and alot of little shops. We went here for New Year's Eve, first they gave us a king room not a double and when we tried to change it they would not accommodate, the rooms are tiny for the amount of money we paid to stay here, the customer service was horrible, overall it was a horrible hotel with horrible service.
