we visited NOLA in august and stayed at this renaissance. the room we had was quite dirty and the carpet really needed to be replaced. the windows were really run down and old. the rooms were small. we had a view of the pool at the Roosevelt across the street. their pool was outdoor, fully equipped w/ a bar and the water seemed very clean. the pool at this hotel was in a horrible location behind the building. the water was lime green and there was not a soul in sight. i felt like we had checked in to Motel 6 when you compare the condition of the pool at this hotel to the one i had to see everyday at the Roosevelt. we were here at this hotel for 3 nights and on the 2nd night, the toilet decided to overflow w/ only pee in it. they had us waiting for over 3 hours and eventually some bellman guy w/ a plunger. he said it was not part of his job, but was stuck w/ the duty. he went in and plunged away w/ wild abandonment. being a clueless man that he was, his plunging resulted in tons of toilet water splattering all over the bathroom that he decided he would leave for me to clean up. swell guy! after all of that, the toilet was still stuck and the smell in the sewer line was now inside the shower. needless to say, the smell was just fantastic. it is now midnight and my little kids are still up because we have no idea when the next person would come to fix the problem. eventually, i insisted on moving and they claim to be full. but, after some screaming and a long come to Jesus conversation w/ a manager, the miraculously found another room for me and my 2 kids. the room was marginally better, minus the special toilet smell. needless to say, we were exhausted and finally went to bed at 1:30am after transferring all of our things. the only few redeeming quality about this hotel was the one tall lady that checked us in. i cannot remember her name, but she was great. the hotel restaurant had a great breakfast. the price i paid for this hotel was only marginally less than the Roosevelt across the street. did i kick myself for not spending the extra $20 that it would have taken to stay at the historic Roosevelt? you bet! i only opted for the Renaissance product because it was part of Marriott and i did not know the Roosevelt was so much better. next time i am in NOLA, i will be checking into the Roosevelt and avoid smelly toilet and green pool.
Go to this hotel for the breakfast and stay at the Roosevelt across the street.
