“Nice hotel in a convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2011

The Renaissance was a nice, well kept, modern hotel. Had an issue with the air-conditioning in the room which was handled immediately and when a resolution could not be made I was given another room (without asking). Customer service was excellent! Great Location! Far enough from the action to have peace while in the hotel and close enough to walk to all the action.

We stayed for Mardi Gras and despite all the craziness from the festivities the service was impeccable. Our room was very clean, room service was great and the staff was courteous and kind at every turn. We will stay there again on our next visit!

Hotel is in a great location. Within walking distance of the french quarter, but far enough so that the noise of Bourbon Street didnt keep me awake. Room was decent, nothing special. Lobby area is cool, no gift shop to pick up travel items like razor, tootbrush, etc. Staff was friendly.

Get past the outside appearance and this is a great hotel. The room was quiet and well appointed and maintained. Bathroom was perfect, bed comfortable and the room quiet. It is New Orleans and yes there was some short lived revelry in the halls, but the room, 407 where I was staying also had a double door for mine and the room next to me... bonus.
Would stay again. Parking is a premium, but if going in and out, keep your car safe and enjoy the great valet service. Starbucks in the lobby is nice too.
Rooms are not like the resort rooms in Vegas, but mine was fine, lots of hangers in the closet, room safe etc. No flat screen HD TV, but why are you watching TV in New Orleans? Get out and enjoy the food, music and people!

The good - decor and vibe were modern and happening, but not over the top like some similar hotels, such as some Ws

The bad - was guaranteed a king but only got a queen, request for upgrade was declined (despite status); maid try to come in and clean at 8 in the morning; no service elevator so staff take up a lot of space in small elevators

The ugly - extremely cramped and awkward layout of rooms (I tried two due to squeaky bed in first) - this is New Orleans, space is not that much of a premium

Location: The hotel is in a great location - a ten minute walk to the French Quarter and Harrah's, a five minute walk to Canal street and a lot of great restaurants nearby.

Hotel: Tasteful modern decor in the lobby and bar/lounge area. There is a starbucks inside the hotel

Rooms: We stayed in a double room - the beds are smaller than a full but larger than a queen and not comfortable at all. The bathroom, however, is very large and bright.

Value: At $140/night, this is a steal in terms of cleanliness and location

Service: This is where the hotel definitely needs to improve. When we checked in, we were told that their system shows we are only booked for one night and their hotel is completely booked for the weekend. Well, we showed our confirmation page and rooms were magically available.
The next day we left during the day and when we came back, our cards for both of the rooms we booked were no longer working. We used the phone in the hallway of our floor to notify the front desk of the situation and was told a bell boy would come up and replace our cards. Well, twenty minutes went by and we were getting tired of standing in the hallway so one of my friends went down to see what was going on. Turns out they "forgot about us"! Validia (sp?) the housekeeper on the 10th floor at the time saw how upset we were so she took matters into her own hands and apologized on behalf of the hotel and also offered us champagne. Well an hour or two passed and Validia (sp?) called to check on us and wanted to know if we were enjoying our champagne. We told her that it never came and within 5 minutes there was someone at our door.

This hotel would have gotten a very poor rating due to their service but because they have such a great employee such as Validia the housekeeper, I will give them an average rating. Such a shame that a housekeeper had to "clean up" the staff's mess. The valet guys and bell boys were also very friendly too.

This hotel was pretty good. The best part was the location. It's close enough to the Quarter so that you can easily walk there, but it isn't in the middle of the craziness. The decor was trendy and cool, and the restaurant (MiLA) was pretty good. However, I wouldn't pay full price for this place. I used airline mileage so it was a good deal for that reason.

Pros: Good location. Front desk staff was friendly/helpful. Fitness center is small, but each cardio machine has it's own TV. Cool area outside for the pool area.
Cons: Room was a little on the small side. The bed was nice and big, but the mattress was not that comfy. The hallways on the 3rd floor smelled badly of smoke, but thankfully inside our room it didn't smell at all.

Overall, I would recommend this place if you can get a good deal on the price.
