Hotel Modern was a bit different. Although recently renovated.. seemingly just the rooms, because the Main Entrance leaves a LOT to be desired. First when arriving no one was in the reception area to greet you...no one. Secondly you stand at a wooden box with nothing on it, not even a pen to sign with. Very odd. Check out is at 11am and Check in is at 4:00pm however, several Customers had to wait another 45 minutes to get a room. One person told us the cleaning staff was short, and the Manager (finally appeared) said that was not true. Giving them the benefit of a doubt due to hurricane Isaac, they seemed very unorganized, and poorly managed. Being aware of the hurricane issues, myself and other guests called ahead and was told everything was running normal, power had never been off and they were at full capacity, and to "come on down". The experience was quite different. They seemed very understaffed and befuzzled. We were told they were trying to help locals who were out of power, but doing so by giving them our booked,...paid for rooms, seemed a bit unfair. I don't want to be too harsh here, because helping others is good, but i get the feeling this hotel has problems. Your room is stocked with everything, and this is because they have no offering of vending of any type. They also have no coffee makers in the rooms, no iron or ironing boards, and best of all with heat and humidity that NOLA has, NO ICE MACHINES. Now you can get anything you need by calling the front box, however, then you must go down and get it, OR wait for them to bring it to your room. Modern....???? Seems modern would have had current ammenities and then some wouldn't you think. I'm kinda of speechless on this place. I was on the 10th floor which made needing things a bit tough. Jennifer was very good at explaining why rooms were late getting into, however, why no ammenities? Very few people wants to pay for mini bar prices in their rooms. Oh, and lastly, the view from my window were the local homeless drunks, sleeping under the statue of General Lee. How nice. On my second night there, one was sleeping just feet from the Hotel entrance. You be the judge,...I'm just sharing my experience.
