Okay, this place has a lot of negative reviews but I honestly really like Cafe Fiorella's. Yes, they were down to one server and the tables were full, so we did have to wait a little while. Yes, they were out of some food and yes it is old & dingy looking. But it is local, it has charm, the staff are super friendly (even when run off their feet) and it is real NOLA food. The fried pickles are awesome - one bowl was enough for the 5 of us. We all tried different things on the menu - fried chicken, gumbo, red beans & rice and chicken tenders. The only complaint was there wasn't quite enough seafood in the gumbo. Otherwise the food was really tasty, and not badly priced either.
The other really great thing about Fiorella's is their $2 martini Tuesdays - any martini on the menu, and they make them properly too (nice and strong). Yes, the food did take awhile (no longer than an hour - the pickles kept us going in the meantime), and we just went to the bar ourselves to get drinks as the poor waitress was flat out all night. We had an absolute ball sitting out the front, people watching, chatting and just socialising until our food / drinks came out. They don't call NOLA 'the Big Easy' for nothing. If people just chilled out and enjoyed the scene they probably would've had a much better experience at Fiorella's. I'll definitely be going back for another visit!
