“Clean, great location, unforgivable noise from construction”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2011

We stayed at this hotel during the Labor Day 2010 weekend for Southern Decadence. The hotel is conveniently located only 2 blocks from the excitement of Bourbon Street. It was undergoing extensive renovations- about half the rooms were under construction. Our room had already been done and was very nice. The rooms did not have refrigerators, and the "free" wifi was not working. The worst part was the awful noise of the drilling and sawing from the time we arrived on Thursday morning until Saturday afternoon made remaining at the hotel during the day unbearable. The courtyard pool would have been so relaxing otherwise. The staff tried to accommodate us by turning up the music, but they would not halt the work until after the holiday. My 9 friends and I found this to be completely unforgivable. We actually had to go to friends' hotels to find relaxation. There was absolutely no reason to continue the renovations during a popular and the last holiday weekend of the summer. This indicates a lack of respect and care for hotel guests.

Reception staff were warm and friendly - lovely. And the room really surprised and impressed me considering the rate we paid. Had a true French Quarter vibe to the room - spacious, comfortable, classical, with nice modern bathroom. Very clean, tidy and hospitable plus an extremely short and safe walk to the main area of French Quarter like Bourbon Street. Had a magical time, would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again.

A friend and I stayed there last weekend. The ATM charged me $5 for a $60 withdrawl without informing me of the cost.
Friday morning at 11:00a.m. the shower had no hot water but the sink did. Very strange!

I loved this hotel. The rooms in New Orleans are typically small, and these are as well compared to other Best Westerns, but my adult daughter, sister, and I were very comfortable in one room. The location is great. We felt safe at all times even on our short walks to the Quarter at night. We had one of the newly renovated rooms, and it was lovely...a real NO "feel" about it. The hotel is under construction, so if you plan to hang out in the lobby you might feel disappointed, but the breakfast area is pleasant, and on the night of our arrival, Dec. 11th, the staff and bartender were delightful They helped us map out our days, offered brilliant suggestions, and were funny. Unfortunately, the bar was closed the rest of the trip, but we got our money's worth that evening. On the 12th a terrible cold front blew in with gale force winds. We enjoyed the sleep-in day, and it was a quick walk around the corner to buy some craw fish cakes at a local market. If you are looking to stay in the lap of luxury, you might be disappointed, but if you want a very delightful room, helpful staff, and a good location this is a great place. We were on the third floor and the walk down to the lobby was quick and painless. We only used the elevator to check in and out. Being from Central Texas we discussed the fact that we might perhaps drive on our next visit, but parking is around $30 per day, so flying for us was less expensive, and we like to walk. I will stay there again.

After reading the other reviews, I was quite pleasantly suprised at the wonderful room we got. The bathroom was especially nice. The only negatives were the little bitty elevator and parking areas, and the construction dust everywhere outside. The continental breakfast was more than I expected, but the water was lukewarm and ran out of milk and other items for a while.

The frontline staff was wonderful and extremely helpful. However the noise in and around the hotel was horrendous. all hours of the night we heard loud music directly outside the hotel, loud construction type sounds all hours of the night. the air conditioning unit in the room and the refrigerator were having competition to see who could turn on and off the most. the hotel was very nice and the rooms look like they were recently updated. but the hotel was not in a very good location. after talking to many of the locals, even they were concerned with where we were staying. the area was considered not safe, especially at night!
