Tipitina's is a New Orleans modern classic - currently celebrating its 35th anniversary. Its in the heart of uptown so if there is a band that interests you, combine it with an evening away from the Quarter as part of your vacation - go to Columns Hotel for a mint julep or cassamento's for some oysters or Jacques Imo's for dinner and then head to Tipitina's for some dancing. Expect concerts to start 30 min+ late but who cares the opening bands are great too. Crowd in with locals and see jass, soul, funk, zydeco or a combination of two or more as is often the case. New Orleans isn't about lounge music its often about HS marching bands blending with other contemporary music forms to make some very new. Especially now that Rampart street is down, this is the place to get a taste.
Only negative is it can get filled with too many kids from local colleges.
