“souvenirs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2014

If you want souvenirs while visiting the French Quarter, get them at the French Market. Everything is cheaper than at the shops and it is the same stuff. Watch the embroidered tshirts. I bought one and when I got home with it I noticed the stitching was on slightly crooked. Stay away from the souvenir shops on Canal Street, they are the most expensive.

“Anatolian silver jewellery - highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

I was so pleased to find beautiful silver jewellery of excellent quality at the French Markets. Mr Hasan Cicek is a proud vendor of the most lovely silver jewellery. Having bought overseas in other places I can attest that his jewellry is carefully crafted and his silver is the real deal, and nothing like the poor quality products I saw elsewhere in the markets.

I brought quite a few pairs of earrings and pendants including a beautiful 5 chakra necklace. His prices are excellent, and I appreciated his courtesy and knowledge of his products. Nothing was too much trouble and he scoured out the back to find me what I was looking for.

And as a bonus he carefully cleaned and polished each item before placing it in an organza bag. Thanks Hasan. I will be back!

“Eh, not impressed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

We were not impressed with the French Market. It was described to be this awesome open air market where artisans gather to sell spices, breads, and local arts. That translated to open air market where locals sell cheap stuff made in China. There were a few artists and crafters who had some amazing work. But no spices that were not in prepackaged bags that could be found in the grocery store. No fresh bread. Not the way it was described.

“Waste of time”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

Basically a flea market, filed with useless crap. Some of the food stands looked ok, but not worth the time or the walk over. We didn't buy anything because most of the vendors had nothing but garbage. Save your money and time. ONLY reason to head over is to stop by El Gato Negro for a margarita.

“Good people watching...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

Encountered some nice people but this is for all purposes a large flea market with multiple vendors carrying the same items.
