“Fascinating glimpse of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

Took a bus tour of the cemetery and learned a lot about it; esp just how many people can be found in one crypt! Enjoyed the architecture and reading about the history of many families. Only downside was there wasn't enough time to spend wandering through the cemetery. I suggest it might be better to buy a guidebook and go on your own so you can spend as much time as you want.

“Pretty Cool!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

If you’re staying in the French Quarter and don’t have a car, don’t go out of your way unless you’re really into cemeteries. St. Louis #1 and #2 and Lafayette #1 will keep you busy. But if you’ll be in the Metairie area (it's actually located within New Orleans city limits) or happen to pass by, you should definitely stop.

The Metairie cemetery is huge, much bigger than those in the city. Once inside, you definitely need a car to get around. The size and opulence of many of the tombs is incredible. You can pick up a map in the office.

“Ho Hum”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

Went on a bus tour round New Orleans. Waste of time and money the highlight was the cemetery and while it was entrenched in history, only saw it for 10mins then back on the bus. Not particularly interesting.

“Historical and different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

Cemetery is so different from what we were familiar with. Generations of families in mausoleums that are very decorative. Many Egyptian statuary as well as religious. Beautifully kept. Maps are available for tours at funeral arrangement centre. We visited on the way to our hotel from the airport as you pass by anyway.

“Metairie Cemetary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

It was walking distance from the streetcar, but difficult crossing the roads as it was walking past highway on and off ramps. It was under construction so we could not get in on foot. We gave up and went back to catch the street car. We did take some nice pics over the fence.
