“Great uptown spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

We had a group of four people who were all from out of town, we made our reservation the day before and met there. My friends loved the neighborhood feel and the great atmosphere as you walk in and true to NOLA it was packed on a Thursday night.
The cocktails were incredible and I was impressed with the bar offerings. The food was excellent both the specials and regular menu had great choices. The local mushrooms and the steak were excellent as well as the deserts. All of our party were well fed and looked after. It was such a pleasant evening and it was made that way because of the courteous staff and great food.

“Overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

There are too many other fine restaurants in New Orleans, so save your money and try something other than Patois. I gave three stars because the service was good, as far as the food goes two stars would be appropriate. My wife and I dine out in New Orleans every weekend. After reading positive reviews on this place we gave it a shot. We both ordered the sauteed fish. It was so bland we added salt three different times. The potatoes tasted like old cooking oil, and the green beans had far too much garlic. The wine list is limited, and overpriced. That was our first, and now I may add, our last trip to this overrated restaurant...

“Great Appetizers, Best Gumbo!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

We went to Patois for lunch on a Fri. (They’re open for lunch only on Fri.)

We started with sweet potato soup (special of the day) and gumbo. Both were EXCELLENT! Gumbo was probably the best we’ve ever had.

We had four appetizers (for two of us—we couldn’t resist. Their appetizers are big). I loved Mississippi Rabbit Bolognese while my companion, a beet lover, loved the beet salad (special of the day). The sweetbreads were also good, but a few too many peanuts. We both thought the gnocchi was lacking some seasoning so we won’t order it again.

For the entree, the Gulf Fish was well executed, but sort of a pointless exercise since the Almondine sauce was so prevalent as to overwhelm the taste of the fish.

And a surprise came in the end and not a good one. The bread pudding was the worst bread pudding we’ve ever had and it was $11!!! Avoid the bread pudding at Patois at all costs! Based on our experience, we won’t order any dessert in the future here (They have a separate pastry chef.)

One other thing is one of the waitresses looks so unhappy. She never smiles and we thought she was almost rude.

A reviewer said the place is too small, but Patois is not (Boucherie is small), with two dining areas (see photos). It’s a converted house that retains a certain Southern charm.

“A culinary masterpiece, and very fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

I've loved NOLA cuisine since I was a kid traveling through with my family on the way to someplace else and its cuisine continues to evolve and to incorporate new tastes and influences.

Our latest discovery is Restaurant Patois, an homage to fresh, locally sourced ingredients with a French twist. Each course was perfect, from the Potato Gnocchi, delicious and light as a feather, to the Seafood Gumbo with a perfect roux for the fresh oysters, shrimp and okra, and finally to the Snapper Almandine, with Mangrove Snapper so fresh it tasted it like it was caught an hour or two earlier. What a treat to share this great place with my family. The deserts were amazing, also.

Our server was wonderful; wish I could remember her name. She was patient, funny and very knowledgeable about the menu.
