“French Quarter Respite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Wonderful, small hotel in the middle of the French quarter (halfway between Bourbon St. and Royal). Rooms are decent-sized and well appointed and the staff are quite friendly. Breakfast is included in the room rate & is surprisingly good (bacon/sausage, hard boiled eggs, cereal, various breads, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice and coffee). The courtyard outside the bar has a very cool atmosphere and some people also seemed to enjoy the small salt water pool.
Just a couple of planning points to keep in mind. Do your own homework on restaurants & tours because there really isn't a concierge to help. They have some information but that's about it. One other minor problem about sleep quality - the pillows on the beds are as hard as rocks. We asked for something softer but there did not seem to be any available.
Glad we followed Tripadvisor and booked this hotel - it was quite an enjoyable three day stay.

Room Tip: Agree with other reviewers - choose a courtyard side room if you are sensitive to noise.

Great location!!! Excellent Service! Great rooms! Nice courtyard with pool! Two girlfriends and I stayed here at Hotel Le Marais for 4 nights for a birthday celebration. Just a block off Bourbon street which was perfect! Excellent walking distance to everything. We loved our room. Our view looked over the courtyard..and was peaceful..so we could sleep in after getting in at 4 or 6 in the morning. Loved the "complimentary" welcome cocktails on our arrival and we really liked our complimentary breakfast in the mornings of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh oj and hot black coffee.(yes!) We met new friends in the courtyard by the pool .. a great set up for socializing. The service from the front desk to the bar staff was..well..we were blown away by that Southern Hospitality!! Thank you Hotel Le Marais !

There is no better occassion than to stay at Hotel le marais in the heart of the French Quarter to celebrate a "Birthday", we are honor to hear that you chose to stay with us for such a special celebration. I do have to agree with you that our hotel is located just steps away from all entertainment and great restaurants. We are glad to hear that you loved your room with the beautiful view of our courtyard, complimentary drinks upon arrival, and our complimentary breakfast in the morning that offers scramble eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh oj, and black coffee and much more. Our courtyard is the perfect place to socialize and meet new people-we are so glad to hear that you met new friends. At Hotel le marais we pride in providing the highest quality of service at all times and to hear that we have done it again, it makes us very happy. Thank you so much for staying with us and please come back and see us soon.

We stayed here during a spring break mini vacation. The location could not be beat, given that it is in the heart of the French Quarter. While only 1/2 block from the craziness of Bourbon Street, we had no problems with noise. The size of the room was fine for a family of 4 and the free breakfast was a plus. Only slight downside--while the size of the bathroom was avg for a modern hotel, it was not exactly family friendly (we have a 12 and 16 yo) because there was no door or curtain on the shower. While very stylish, it was just too easy to get water on the floor and of course provided no privacy to the person showering. Given the rate compared to other hotels in the French Quarter, we were very happy with our stay at Le Marais. Also, highly recommend Oceana Grill, which is only a couple doors down.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and get a room with a balcony

The location is just off Borboun Street - so close, but noise was not a problem. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the complimentary morning breakfast for a quiet start to our days. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: We stayed on pool side and away from elevator so our stay was very quiet.

My friends & I traveled to NOLA for St. Patrick’s Day. This was our first time there and we didn’t really know what to expect but going by all the of the past reviews I knew the Hotel Le Marais was a going to be a good choice. We arrived a little early, around 1pm and our room wasn’t ready yet. Pierre was very friendly & helpful at check in, he took our phone number and told us he would call as soon as it was ready, and Jamal took our bags so we could go grab a bite on Bourbon.

We could not believe how close to Bourbon & Royal we were! Literally steps away from both – right in the middle of all the action. We walked everywhere! The entire French Quarter, the River walk, French Market, the St. Charles Streetcar... We didn’t have to take a cab anywhere! And from just about any spot on Bourbon St. it was literally a 2-5 minute walk back to the room.

The room was just big enough for the 4 of us. We were all able to pick a spot for our suitcases without them being in the way & tripping over them. It was modern and clean. The bathroom was a little small and didn’t have much vanity space for our toiletries, but we made it work. The shower is a little odd… There isn’t a full shower door/curtain and anyway we pointed the shower head, there would still be water on the floor. We also found that our TV wasn’t working but when we told the front desk, they sent up a technician immediately and it was taken care of. One little issue we found was with the housekeeping. In the morning we would have our (complimentary) coffee in the room and when we came back later in the day, our coffee cups and some other garbage (empty water bottles, wrappers, etc) were still there. Also the bathroom wasn’t completely cleaned & restocked with towels and toilet paper. But again, all we had to do was place a call to the front desk and they were at the door within 5 minutes.

The hotel was very safe & secure. You needed to use your room key to access the elevator & stair way and also after 1am you had to swipe your key to enter the hotel lobby. We also thought it was going to be very noisy being so close to the action but we really didn't hear any outside noise from our room!

The complimentary drink at the bar was a nice added bonus, as was the complimentary breakfast every morning. We really only took advantage of the coffee & juice but they offered scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hot & cold cereal, fruit & bagels.

When our flight was delayed on the day we were checking out, once again Pierre was helpful and took our bags so we could spend some more time on Bourbon without having to drag around our luggage and when it was time for us to head to the airport he called us a cab. All in all we were very happy with our stay. Everyone was friendly and helpful & the grounds were well kept. I would definitely stay at Hotel Le Marias again and recommend it to others that are traveling to NOLA.

Some other tips for first time travelers:
GW Fins Restaurant on Bienville St. was outstanding. If you are looking for a nice dinner, I highly recommend it. We shared the Lobster Dumplings as an appetizer, they were delicious! For the main course, two of us ordered the steak & two of us ordered fish and we were all very pleased with our meals. And ACME Oyster House on Iberville – Cargrilled oysters are a MUST! I haven’t stopped thinking about them since we left!

Hotel Le Marais was a great find for on a recent business trip to New Orleans. I was reluctant to book in the French Quarter because I didn't want to be in the midst of so much potential noise, or with so many other tourists. But I was very pleasantly surprised - it is right next to Bourbon street, and the streets would get loud at night, but when you walk through the doors, you are in a different world. Our room was quiet and comfortable, and the bar was always very relaxed. We stopped in at the bar to have a quiet nightcap almost every night of our stay, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere after a few hours on lively streets.

It was about a 20 min walk to the convention center, and the riverfront streetcar doesn't run on schedule. So we did end up taking cabs to the convention center and to restaurants more than we thought we would but they are not that expensive and very easy to catch everywhere we went. We never called a cab, and never waited more than about 3 minutes before finding one.

Breakfast was good, included in our rate, and tastier than I usually expect for a hotel breakfast. The hot foods were different everyday, and there was a variety of other stuff like breads and cereal available as well (I admit I didn't really notice the "other stuff" much now that I think of it).

We stayed at this hotel so that we could be close to the action on Bourbon St during Mardi Gras. Loved the free martini every day! This hotel included breakfast, which is unheard of in the French Quarter. Nothing special, but saved a few bucks and some time looking for somewhere to eat in the morning. Nicely updated rooms that were clean and modern. Super close to walk to everything you'll want to do in the Quarter. Loved that we had a fridge in our room and an iPod docking station was a great bonus. Would stay here again for sure.
