“If your kids like bugs this is great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Turned the beautiful old Commons Bldg at the foot of Canal St into this great insectarium.
Very intersting info on local bugs. Cooking demo with bugs and samples to try such as meal worm taco dig and cinammon crickets. Lots of interactive learning along the way. Movie and butterfly room as well. Discount coupons available for $3 off adult and $2 off kids from neworelanscoupons.com

“Great food! Lol!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Great food, if you want to do like Bizarre foods or even Anthony Bourdain and dine on insects...the display was nice, but the most interesting thing was watching them cook the insects, and give you advice on which bug you can use as a substitute for pecans!! They actually allowed the very brave in the audience to try some of the cooked insects as well.

“EwwwwGrooosss!! You Ate That? But Ooooh The Flutterbyes!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

"Hugemongous" cockroaches and secretive underground burrowing bugs and water bugs and bugs you would swear were created by a science fiction writer ...so many kinds of bugs, there's something to fascinate everyone I've ever accompanied to the Insectarium. From age 3 to 83, boys or girls , adventurous or shy, everyone was drawn in by it, even if only to watch someone (like me) eat meal worms and crickets and other tasty stuff ! If they haven't found anything divine and you're nearing the end of this small museum, fear not! Yet to see are sights like iridescent beetles and butterflies of nearly impossible colors mounted in lovely patterns behind glass, and even more of mother earth's amazing palette awaits you through the double doors into the butterfly exhibit. It seems if you sit still & have perfume on, one of these intensely colored gossamer-winged beauties will usually alight on you. It's a restful area and helps quiet down the kids before piling back into the car.
Oh and BERT S.?? You're my kinda Insectarium visitor! T'wouldn't be as much fun going back as often as I have if I didn't get to see what's cooking today!

“Not My Kind of Thing, but Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

They have done a really good job with this space. It's engaging, very interactive and educational, if you like bugs. The interactive, motion movie is like ones you've seen at certain other amusement parks and it's cute for the kids. The butterfly exhibit is smaller than we've seen in other places, but it's understandable given the space. The Japanese garden touches in it are nice.

Be very aware of your timing. The venue closes at 5:00 pm sharp and entry is barred after 4:00 pm. They enforce the times quite strongly. It is a very easy and quick walk from the Aquarium, so just be sure to leave there around 3:30 pm or so if you're going to finish the day here.

“Cool bugs!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Tons of great bugs to see, some you can even touch or eat! Fun place to go with the family ... grab a membership and see the zoo and aquarium too for a year.
