“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

I was very impressed by many things at this hotel. Fantastic staff they are very accomodating. Very easy to get around. Great breakfast in the morning in the lobby, way more than I expected. when I visit again I plan on staying here. Great location. Thank you for making my stay in MSY delightful. Even the limo service was fantastic, Gerry rocks! Just came upon him outside the terminal, when the cab lines were very

I just returned from two nights at the Hampton Inn Convention Center. I was in NOLA for the Rock n Roll Marathon and picked this Hampton Inn because it was close to the Convention Center for the Health Expo and number pickup and also only 1/2 mile from the start line. It was cool and rainy so we ended up taking cabs to the French Quarter. We stayed on the eight floor in a room overlooking the convention center.. it was clean and spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was really good and I was glad it started at 6 am so I could get in a quick breakfast before the race. It was actually better than the usual hotel breakfast, and you could get a Breakfast to Go bag to take with you too. The staff at the front desk were so nice and friendly and had some great restaurant suggestions. We had my pre race sushi dinner at Rock n Sake...Great and fun atmosphere.. really short walk !!! We had some great pizza for lunch after the race at Magazine Pizza... also suggested by the hotel...If I was going for just sightseeing, I would prefer to be closer to the French Quarter, but we did take the street car and cabs were readily available and not too expensive. I would recommend it for anything to do near the convention center or pre cruise.

We stayed here one night during the week between Super Bowl and Mardi Gras. Chose it primarily for its location (not far from the Quarter) and the fact it has it's own parking that isn't real obvious to passers by. Our room was in the historic part of the hotel with lots of space and charm. The front desk staff was extremely nice and helpful. Breakfast was one of the best for this type of chain hotel with attentive wait people keeping it replenished. Lots of open, bright space to sit and enjoy breakfast in. The valet parking staff was also very nice and helpful with directions, etc. The only negative comment was the 'attitude' of the hotel bartender. Seems he did not like the fact that the front desk gave us a complimentary drink ticket during the timeframe we were there, apparently they weren't suppose to be giving them out. However, he acted like it was our fault and was very rude. Even with my comment to try and lighten things up, he did not crack a smile :( With that said, I still rate the service 'excellent', and we would certainly stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Stay in the historic building if you can. Our room had brick wall on the outside wall with large wi...

We stayed here prior to leaving on a cruise. The staff made this an excellent choice. The park across the street and access to a variety of nearby places of interest exceeded my expectations. Cabs were always available and the hotel is within walking distance to the World War II museum, several very good restaurants and a casino. The free hot breakfast has a good variety to meet health conscience guests as well as families. The concierge is the best member of an outstanding staff.

Room Tip: Location is excellent and staff makes this the place to stay to access downtown or as a jumping off...

This is not your typical Hampton Inn chain but way better! Housed in a historic old building and full of charm. Lobby and breakfast area were beautifully decorated with warm colors and hardwood floors. Plenty of sofas and couches and little cosy corners to sit around, relax and chat. We chose this hotel for Mardi Gras because it is close to walk to the parade routes. We also managed to walk to the French Quarters. This hotel is directly across the street from the Convention Center, so great choice if you are here for a convention.

Our room and other parts of the hotel were very clean. Room was very spacious. Two double beds and a sofa bed and still plenty of space for luggages. Free wifi in room although connection was spotty at times.

Free Breakfast was excellent! During our stay here and much to our surprise, there were different delicious breakfast choices each morning. Most hotel chain don't do that. Food was always well-stocked and replenished. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate available all day at the breakfast area. Once we came back to the hotel at 10pm and a staff was there replenishing the coffee and hot water. At the reception, water is available all day as well as freshly baked cookies in the afternoon.

The hotel staff from reception to valet and from breakfast staff to housekeeping were very friendly and professional. They all seemed to be very hard-working.

The only reason I am not giving this hotel 5 stars is because during our stay, they increased their parking fee without any prior notification (not $29.75 as advertised). They called this Event Parking because of Mardi Gras. I feel that the increased fee is unwarranted - (1) the parking is only for hotel guests and (2) room rates are already more expensive during Mardi Gras.

Notwithstanding that, I would stay here again because it is a great hotel and good value for money.

We stayed here for one night with 2 young kids over the weekend. We were able to change our stay from a Friday to Saturday on Thursday without a charge, despite that being within the cancellation penalty 72 hour window. I appreciate that, it's just good service.

The staff were all very nice to us, from the valet to the front desk and the breakfast people. I also appreciate that.

The rooms were a little small for Hamptons, but typical of bigger cities like New Orleans. I thought the breakfast was not very good, myself, even by Hampton standards, but I see a lot of people on this site did like it. Maybe I caught it on a bad day. It certainly wasn't awful, and they had a great selection of breakfast cereals.

I want to let people know about our experience getting to the French Quarter. I think that will help some folks. First off, if you want to drive, the valet parking is unlimited in and out, so that helps, but keep in mind that parking in the Quarter is scarce and expensive. We chose to take the Riverfront Streetcar. First thing to know is that the so-called John Churchill Chase Station on the NORTA schedules and on Google Maps does not operate right now. It looks like this is just right across the street from the hotel (but on the other side of the Convention Center). For whatever reason, the current last stop on the Riverfront line is the Julia St. station on the north end of the Convention Center. This is decent walk from the Hampton. The streetcar costs $1.25, cash only and no change provided, so come prepared. Also important to note: when you are in the Quarter and want to take the Streetcar back to the hotel, make sure you get on the Riverfront Line. There are Canal St. Line cars also heading south on the same track up to Canal St. and it's really easy to get on one of those if you are not paying attention (which we did). These will not take you where you want to go.

In all, if you are going to be doing a lot of stuff in the Quarter and want to have the hotel be convenient, you should stay over there. We wanted to save money, so we chose this Hampton. I think it was fine, but the streetcar is not a super way to get back-and-forth. I'm sure this place is awesome if you are going to something at the convention center.

We stayed here for Mardi Gras. The hotel is close enough to Lee Circle to see all the parades, hop on the streetcar uptown, a short walk to the casino and the red streetcar into the French Quarter. Room 525 had a great king bed and pull out couch. There was a small kitchen with glasses, plates, flatware, a fridge and microwave and coffee maker. The bathroom was a little tired with peeling wallpaper, but the hot shower made up for that. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. Holly and Aurelia took very good care or our car and room. The breakfast attendants(sorry I can't remember your names!) were awesome. Thanks for a great vacation.
