Right at the Canal Street edge of the French Quarter, has easy access to the attractions and a 10 minute walk to the river. Also right next to CBD. About a mile from the convention center - there are closer hotels for that. Also easy walks to the St. Charles trolley line.
This is a more "traditional" Ritz, so it does have a dated feel. We had some issues with our bathroom during one stay which though the staff was quite responsive they were unable to fix during our stay. Valet service is expensive but very convenient because you pull out of Canal Street traffic into the entryway. Everyone from the valet through the front desk staff exhibited the usual high standard of Ritz friendliness and professionalism. .
We've stayed here many times and while the rates vary widely they are pretty reasonable for a Ritz. I also like The Saint next door (also a Marriott property), which has a funkier, edgier feel. Though the Ritz is more expensive, depending on season and if you want to pick a room with a view or suite and use a travel package including food and breakfast credits, the rates become more comparable between the hotels.
