“A must place to stay in New Orleans”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2012

This is a first class place to stay. We are offered an upgrade to a club level room when checking in, well worth a few more bucks. The most impressive part of this great property is the staff. Everyone I walked by smiled and had a pleasent greeting. The hotel is immaculate and the rooms were very comfortable. The club was very nice and served a very nice breakfast, mid-day and evening snacks with complimentary beverages. The saving from not using the mini bar is worth the cost of upgrade. The location is very close to the action, but far enough away to be able to have a quiet evening. There is a beautiful spa at this location, I did not visit it.

Stayed in a Club Room. Room large and comfortable. Club lounge very good with a great selection of food, wines and spirits throughout the day. Finding your way around the hotel is a bit tricky as the building is a converted department store. Location of the hotel is perfect for exploring the French quarter.

Stayed 3 nights in early April while on a tour of the Gulf Coast. When checking in, was advised of the benefits included in upgrading to the Club Level - Maison Orleans - by a lovely staff member. Highly recommend doing so. We were fortunate to have the services of their excellent Concierge staff dedicated to the Club Level - particularly a young gentleman named Foster who was very attentive and extremely helpful in his recommendations. Our room was gorgeous and everything about our stay was perfect. Found Bourbon St. and the French Quarter to be slightly smelly and seedy, which made returning to our hotel all the more inviting. What the French Quarter lacked, the lovely Garden District more than made up for including some terrific restaurants. Our stay at the Ritz Carlton was hands down the highlight of our vacation.

Room Tip: due to time constraints, did not make any Spa appts., however it appeared to be a beautiful area. T...

Located on edge of French Quarter, convenient. Usual Ritz-Carlton comfort. Room fine, well-equipped, although maids leave water and amenities some days, miss them on others. Restaurant off third-floor lobby excellent food, service hit and miss. Waiter "Dietries" (sp?) outstanding at dinner, answer to every special request was "We'll make it happen!" excellent dinner that night, from cocktail to wine to meal to dessert and service. I'll stay here again.

Room Tip: As high up as you can

We stayed at the Ritz Carlton 4/6 through 4/8. My family and I thought it was a great hotel and really liked the location. The Davenport lounge was a nice place to have a drink and listen to great music at the end of the day. There were 4 in our party and I requested 2 beds. When we checked in they only had a king bed available. They gave us a roll away bed and guaranteed us another room the next day. For two days we decided to stay in the room and not move. I'm not writing this as a negative but just to let people know to confirm reservations over the phone if you need a special request

First off - if you like the smell of scented candles then this is the place for you! If, like me, you prefer to smell clean air - stay out of the lobby and elevator areas. Really - the smell was over the top and distracted from the stay. If I was there on a personal trip I would have walked out and never checked in once the smell hit me. I was there for a conference and did not have that choice.

Expect the room to be small as it is an older hotel - and that is fine. Courtyard was lovely this time of year (4/10-4/13). Hotel has an old world feel which I love.

Service staff were profesional, quickly replaced the light bulb that was out in my bathroom once reported. But I have to ask - shouldn't your 5th floor cleaning staff have noticed this and reported it? I did not report it because I was in a hurry and thought they would - finally after 2 days I reported it and it was fixed before I returned to the room.

Sheets were stained. Not dirty, you could tell they were washed, crisp and clean. But had stains. Really? At the Ritz?

The food served was delicious - I do not prefer Red Fish and theirs was some of the best fish I have ever had - would order again. Also, the oyster and mushroom breadpudding - WOW!

Howard at the bell desk was so helpful and gracious. Made you feel very special and pampered. I do not remember her name, but the lady working the front desk at 1:30 AM on Thursday 4/12 was also very accomidating to our group and helped with several requests.

But I do have to echo another reviewer - paying extra for WiFi when you are paying this much for a room is insulting. It is the little things you remember - and I will remember that. Also, bed was a little firm for my taste.

Room Tip: 574 over looks the roof - terrible view - but it is quiet

If you've been to NOLA lately, you know it's still recovering. It's not the tourist destination it used to be; it's more a place that you have to go for some other reason. The streets are a little seedier, the denizens a little more desperate. It's in this context that I write this post. The Ritz is an oasis right in the middle of this mess.

Inside, the property is beautiful, if a little maze-like. I stayed in the club level called Maison Orleans. I'd recommed it to anyone who finds they must stay in NOLA. It includes separate access, a concierge, a private lounge, and a small number of well-appointed rooms. I only stayed and dined there one night, so this next remark is only based on a single encounter. For dinner, I ate at the lounge. It was nearly deserted and was tended for by the bartender who was much more interested in talking at an ear-splitting volume with his underachieving friend visiting at the end of the bar. The food was good, but the service and deserted nature of the lounge made for an off combination.

I give it 4 stars due to the Maison Orleans accomodations. Just realize you're in NOLA. It will only get so good, and never perfect, at least not till the town has fully recovered.
