“great hotel downtown new orleans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2012

The Ritz Carlton hotel in downtown New Orleans is very well run. The concierge team was very helpful and the rooms were large and comfortable. Bathrooms had wonderful , large towels and we used the resistance pool and spa area.We also had a snack at the bar next to the M restaurant and were very satisfied.
My only complaint was that our room faced Canal street which is incredibly noisy so being on the 4th floor did not help.
I used my ear plugs and that softened the noise but I would suggest asking for a higher floor when staying there.

Room Tip: higher floors to avoid noise or not facing canal street

Good Location, beautiful furnishings.

However, this hotel is full of excuses and empty promises. Dealing with the people at the front desk, who are very nice, but they do not have any authority to do anything for you. Regardless of how many Ritz's you stay in. I find this totally unacceptable, and do not understand how this can be.

VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED, I really thought this would be a phenomenal trip.

We booked our stay at the Ritz and I am so happy we did. The location was great - a tiny bit out of the madness, but still close to the madness if that makes sense. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is more than helpful. My theroy with hotels is you get what you pay for, and this was worth it. The lounge is a great place to watch some live music with wonderful drinks and food. The hotel is truly in the perfect location. If you are looking for a loud, crazy party hotel- this is not your spot. My husband and I were here on a weekend get away and still consider oursleves young ( mid 30s) however, loud party hotels are a thing of our past. It was a perfect get away.

Hint- use the back entrance by the spa, it littlerally thows you right out super close to Bourbon. Also, great spot to see VIPs- we saw the LA Lakers checking in and the following night the Washington Wizards. They are also filming a movie and Morgan Freeman can been seen in the hotel daily.

Room Tip: Non Canal street rooms are very quiet -

I love Ritz Carlton Hotels. With few exceptions, you can count on a Ritz Carlton to be elegant, clean and luxurious, with an attentive staff providing top-notch service. I have stayed at this property at least three times this year, most recently for an eight-day-stay, and I was again pleased with my decision.

During my most recent stay, my room was nothing special, lacking even a decent view. I have, however, stayed in suites at this hotel and they were nothing short of spectacular. The beds are always comfortable, the room decor consistent with the rest of the hotel, and spacious bathrooms. For Marriott Platinum members, internet service is free, otherwise, it is $12.95 a day. The hotel has an excellent fitness center open 24 hours with numerous cardio machines and a separate weight room.

The hotel has a great location - right on Canal Street, on the French Quarter side. You are easily within walking distance to Bourbon Street and all the attractions of the Quarter. Additionally, there is a street car stop directly across from the hotel, as well as the Canal Street shopping and business district. The hotel also has valet parking, which is not a guarantee in New Orleans.

The hotel's bar is quite popular, particularly on weekend nights. It makes the elevators crowded, the wait at valet longer and perhaps most annoying--the inebriated guests and bar patrons being loud and obnoxious in the lobby as well as the hallways of the guest floors. There isn't much the hotel can do about this, however.

If you are looking for luxury and a great location, I definitely recommend the Ritz.

Thank you for taking the time to share your stay at The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans. We sincerely appreciate your patronage. We are glad to learn that you had a memorable stay in our newly renovated guest rooms and that you were able to enjoy our fitness center and live music venue. Regretfully, all of our rooms don't offer sweeping views because we are housed in a historic landmark (circa 1909), so buildings cropped up around us in the last 100+ years. Your review is incredibly important to us as a hotel that prides itself on providing the finest service and facilitates in the city. Thank you for helping us, we appreciate your feedback and look forward to your return.

The property shares the big, gracious amenities of the chain with plenty of tasteful local artwork, colorful carpets and lots of marble in a historic building. However, compared to its bigger brothers in other places, the New Orleans version lacks a certain grandness including no views other than the very top floors, no pool area (there is an endless pool device that closes early) and a layout that requires moving between a 3-story public section and a 9-story private section. As expected the staff is solicitous although the local "Nawlins" laxity can be viewed in the occasional uncollected finished drink or discarded banana peel. The concierge desk is a standout and given that reservations and things to do are at a premium in "The Big Easy" this is unusually important. The food in the central courtyard and in the French Quarter bar is impeccable if a little dull. Prices for drinks in the Davenport Lounge run $15 to $20 which seriously begs the question why you would drink here given you are in a city chock-a-block with bars. In short, this is sort of a little brother in the Ritz Carlton portfolio.

Room Tip: Higher the better

This was our second trip to the Ritz in New Orleans. Lovely gracious hotel. We come to New Orleans every year mainly to eat and to listen to some great music. The concierge is always helpful and provides us with line bypass tickets for our favourite restaurant. The Davenport lounge is a wonderful place to spend an evening. The hotel is first class comparatively speaking. We had once stayed at the Marriot, and found that the larger, budget "conference style" hotels don't even come close to the quality of rooms and service which you get at the Ritz Carlton, New Orleans. Great service, good value. The hotel is well maintained and the recently renovated rooms look great. There is no other place that even comes close in New Orleans.

We stayed for 3 nights recently and could not have been happier with this hotel. Classic Ritz Carlton service. Stayed on Club Level, which is absolutely the way to go - breakfast, lunch, snacks, plus hot and cold hors d'oeuvres and cocktails in the evening. Great cookies all day long - we found ourselves stopping by the 4th floor just to get cookies! The service in club lounge was very good, they were welcoming and always eager to help with any of our needs.
Rooms are just gorgeous with sumptuous decor, comfy beds, and the bathroom was spacious with a huge tub (unfortunately did not have the time to get in it!)
Location is very convenient; right on Canal, two blocks from Bourbon Street, easy walk to Harrahs or Canal Place shopping.
One warning - getting to and from the Club Level is a little trickly due to the layout of the hotel.
Looking forward to a convention in NO next year, will definitely be back at the Ritz!
