From the moment I arrived at the hotel I was instantly welcomed and made to feel as I had stepped into the home of a close friend. Lydia, Melissa and Charmaine made sure that my stay here was pleasant, comfortable and all that my requirements for a relaxing, holiday were met.
My room was large, light and very comfortable. It faced the busy street, with the street cars right outside, yet from the room I did not hear any street noise at all, which was brilliant. This section of St Charles is also filled with a diverse range of restaurants all within easy walking distance.
I will definitely stay here again when I return to New Orleans.

This hotel was cozy, conveniently located and allowed you to feel as a resident for a stay, instead of just a hotel guest. The private entrances, charming courtyard and extremely friendly staff can't be beat. The trolley car picks you up right in front of the hotel, and is wonderful for heading out into the Garden District to see the history and architecture, or to take you to the French Quarter for some serious partying. If you are going to New Orleans, definately stay here!!!

I am a college student on a road trip and am used to just those typical Days Inn type places. I chose this hotel for it's (most importantly) rate and lack of bed bug reports, proximity to the French Quarter, and ability to put my car somewhere safe. I am very easy to please- all I really require is a safe, clean, place to sleep and this hotel went WAY above my expectations.

The woman at the desk was very helpful. We couldn't figure out how to get the shower to work (but I am stupid and do this everywhere =) ) and she helped us find our way around with a map and good directions.

Breakfast was amazing. I made myself some hot oatmeal, toasted a bagel with jelly, and a small piece of chocolate cake. We had our breakfast courtyard/patio type place right by the room.

Our room is small, which is fine we paid $60/night for it, but for what it is it looks so pretty. I feel like I cheated the budget, but I didn't. We have everything we need, a spacious marble bathroom, and even a little kitchen area for a sink and microwave.

Parking is $20 a day, in a garage around the block. I looked all over, parking is around this rate anywhere (hotel wise) near French Quarter. I feel safe with my car there. There is a $1.25 trolley right across the street that takes you to/from the French Quarter. We ate at both the pizzeria and the bbq restaurants directly on either side of the hotel and they were really cool with good food.

This place is very cute, it is not the same as walking up and down the creepy hallways of a dreary chain motel. We were greeted by everyone we saw, staff and visitors. It is unique and definitely well worth a stay. It goes above and beyond a typical hotel visit.

We arrived at the Avenue Garden Hotel just past 9pm on Thursday night. As we walked toward the hotel my girlfriends phone began to ring, just as we were about to answer we walked past a lady on the steps of the hotel on her phone, she paused and asked if we were the two people who had called her earlier lost? We replied we were, and she informed us she was calling to tell us there was an open parking spot in front of the hotel and she had been waiting out front for us. That is how we met Litya, the hotel manager, a charming southern lady who then took the time to show us around the former townhome (my guess) that was our hotel. She answered all of our touristy questions and even recommended The Acme Oyster House to eat, which became our favorite (try the char-grilled oysters!).

About the hotel: This is a quaint, small hotel, it is not the Marriott or Hilton. We were looking for something that was had the character of the city, and in my opinion this place has it. The room was medium size, good enough for two people, it had an old fireplace that had been sealed, nice king size bed, tv and window a/c unit that definitely kept the room cool (I keep my house at 72 degrees year round, I like it cold, I cannot sleep if it's hot, and the window unit definitely worked!) The bathroom was a little small, but if you're only complaint is that you wish there was more bathroom space, that's a good thing. There was a continental breakfest served every morning, I didn't partake, as half the reason for the trip was to have NOLA food, but I saw groups of people each morning eating together on the patio sitting area. Coffee was ready every morning, which I did have.
The area is great, lots of restaurants around the area. The tram picks up across the street which you can take to Canal Strret across from bourbon for $1.25 each way. Also, we took taxi's home each night from Bourbon street, and it ran from $7-8 each time. The front door of the hotel is locked at all times, you are given a key at checkin, so we always felt very safe.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay, and the hotel definitely added to it, wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

Just returned to the UK after an extended trip to the USA and must admit enjoyed New Orleans the most! A fabulous small hotel that just oozes zstyle and has charming staff. The welcome you receive and atmosphere during your stay is brilliant and Lydia is most helpful. Close to the street car so no need for your own transport. Excellent bars and places to eat on your doorstep. If you want generic hotel rooms courtesy of a chain don't stay here...if you want a style, ambiance, a warm welcome, good advice and excellent coffee in the courtyard, the feel of a Louisiana welcome and excellent value for money then this is the place for you. I will return!!
