Y'all need to go to New Orleans at least one time in your life.
We have just returned and as promised here is the review.
Our friends and we, went to this resort for Mardi Gras and we had a great time. The resort is fronted by the trolley line which runs north/south from the downtown core all the way to the university area at the south end. This is a safe part of town where we never felt threatened in any way. Come to think of it we can say the same for all of the areas we visited whilst in this city.
There are lots of good eateries and drinkeries close by and the prices were comparable to Canadian prices. The people of New Orleans are very friendly and always eager to please.
The resort itself has quite a luxury feel to it and the rooms are very modern in a semi period style as far as furnishings go, having top quality furniture (no particle board here) and fittings. The room we had was a studio suite having just one main room and a bathroom. Very well equipped with every appliance you could ask for except for a Tea Kettle. Cooktop (very modern and fast) Blender, fridge, microwave, hood, HDTV, Wi-Fi, Coffee Maker, all crockery, pans and cutlery. Like a home from home - perhaps even nicer than home. The room was bright and spacious.
Bathroom was similarly period style furnished and included hairdryer, iron/board and shower with rainforest style showerhead.
The staff was exceptionally courteous and helpful and the hotel goes out of its way to ensure no uninvited guests get in (especially important at Mardi Gras, with all the drinking going on outside).
New Orleans is a great city and you have to get outside the city to get a sense of what happened during hurricane Katrina and its after effects, which will blow your mind !
We really enjoyed the French Quarter and the sounds of jazz music everywhere. We also recommend the dinner cruise on the Natchez which is an authentic Steam powered Sternwheeler - the only one on this part of the Mississippi, if not the last. very nostalgic and also has a Caliope which is played before each cruise. A sound which takes you back into the past !
All in all a great to recommend vacation, great resort and would like to go back for another visit.
Also if you get the chance, go to dinner at the Montelione Hotel in the French Quarter - very nice dinner in a beautiful hotel. $$$$ Oh, also across the street, Brennans Restaurant for lunch $$
Enjoy this fine city - before nature finishes it for good ! The citizens here are certainly not quitters! Thank you for an unforgettable experience.
