“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

My wife and I stayed with some friends in the two bedroom suite. We stayed during French Quarter Fest. We travel to Nola a couple times a year, and might have found our new favorite place to stay. When we arrived, Chuck greeted us and gave us a tour. He answered all the question we had, and made us fill very at home. The room was perfect for what we were looking for. It was very clean, and very spacious. It is located just outside from the noise of bourbon street. We never heard anything at night. The only very small problem we had with the room was the bed. It was a little hard for us. But we gladly got over it, because how fantastic the place was. The courtyard is very nice. Will be staying again!!

We just returned from staying at Bon Maison Guest House for 4 nights and loved it! In fact, I'm a bit hesitant to write this review because we want to stay there again... here's hoping that you don't book our next Bon Maison dates before we do. :)

We stayed in the Victorian Suite and our friend stayed in one of the Slave Quarter Suites. We found the rooms to be well-appointed, clean and totally charming. And, the location was just perfect. On the quiet end of Bourbon Street, we were able to easily walk to shopping, food, and tasty beverages in the French Quarter.

Chuck met us to check us in and we really enjoyed visiting with him. He gave us excellent recommendations like the delicious poboys just across the street at NOLA Poboys (get the fried okra..it's as good as mom's) and the bartenders at Cafe Lafitte in Exile took great care of us after they found out that Chuck sent us.

Our bed was comfortable and the A/C worked perfectly. We appreciated having a refrigerator and a microwave which were perfect for leftovers. One of our favorite meals was leftovers in the beautiful courtyard. We actually ate breakfast in the courtyard for two of our mornings after a quick walk to Community Coffee for excellent coffee and chocolate hazelnut croissants.

If you're looking for a charming change of pace from the cookie cutter hotel chain scene, give Bon Maison a try. You'll be glad you did.

I recently stayed at the Bon Maison and cannot stop talking about how amazing it was. I was a little weary at what I would be getting at such a great price but was completely satisfied with everything, The location is perfect, right on Bourbon but far enough away that you get peace and quiet at night.

Chuck and Butch were an absolute delight and went above and beyond in making sure that we were taken care of. My luggage got lost on my way to N.O and Chuck was on it making phone calls, talking to the airline and helping me get everything together to make sure that I got it back as soon as possible. They truly were so sweet and helpful and answered any questions we had about everything and anything!

If you get the chance I would definitely jump on the chance to stay here. You wont find better!

Room Tip: We stayed in the double bedroom. Great for 2 couples or close friends! Oh but dibs the back bedroo...

That being said this is still Bourbon St after all. It's just a block from the edge of the action. The room we were in was on the street but there are no windows and shutters on the door. You are likely to still hear the random motorbike or drunk serenading his imaginary girlfriend but for $115 tax INCLUDED you are not likely to find a better deal. Room was spacious and well laid out with nice period pieces. Small fridge, microwave & sink so you can bring leftovers back from the restaurants for lunch the next day. Chuck is super nice and helpful yet gives you plenty of space.
Be sure to ask for a tour of his place (if you can handle heavy cig smell). It's an antique museum! Oh and a beautifully landscaped courtyard complete with aviary.

My wife and I stayed here March 14-19. While Bourbon Street was crowded and noisy. Bon Maison is quiet and safe because its rooms open onto an inner courtyard accessible through a locked gate, and complete with tame birds and a charming fountain. Chuck was friendly and hospitable, and even hand-delivered a package I'd had shipped there before I'd even had time to ask him about it. Bon Maison is a short walk away from the French Market and Jackson Square. Rooms have a fridge, sink and microwave, making it possible to save much of New Orleans' huge restaurant meals for later. Internet is free, and it works in the rooms and the courtyard. You could stay in a big box chain hotel in the central business district, or a faux-Creole modern building, but why would you when something this nice and reasonably priced is available?

My boyfriend and I stayed here in December of 2012 on a 5 day trip to New Orleans. This was our first time in New Orleans, and we didn't really realize how LOUD Bourbon Street can be at night! Amazingly, this hotel is situated just far enough past the real hustle and bustle of Bourbon Street, but not so far that you feel unsafe on the (possibly tipsy) trek back to the hotel after dark.

The location of this place is great for those wanting to sight-see in the French Quarter. We rented a car part way through our stay, and we managed to snag free overnight street parking several blocks down (though not without some James Bond-esque maneuvering). Our "Slave Quarter" room was on the first floor facing the adorable court yard (complete with birds), and I don't remember hearing a peep from any of the other guests. Our room was small and cozy; it fit a queen bed, chest of drawers, and a small kitchenette complete with coffee maker, microwave, small table, mini-fridge, sink, and a hot plate. The bathroom was also small with a shower (no tub), a sink, and a toilet. It could only fit one person at a time, and we did have a problem with running out of hot water to quickly (ladies, shower first!). That being said, it was a very cozy, homey-feeling room.

The proprietor of the establishment, Chuck, was also a pleasure to deal with; he greeted us personally when we arrived and answered our questions as needed. Given the price of the room and all of our needs being met, I feel comfortable rating the stay at Bon Maison as "excellent."

We visted NOLA a couple of years ago and on one of our none too steady 'walks' down Bourbon Street we spotted Bon Maison. We thought it looked like an interesting place to stay and in an uncharacteristically clever moment we took a couple of photos to remind us.
We are so pleased that we did as we have just come back from an extremely enjoyable three day stay there.
Bourbon Street always lives up to it's reputation irrespective of when you visit. We went post Mardi Gras and although it was not as frantic as the week before it still delivered a punch of sheer hedonism.
Chuck and Butch have created a gem of a retreat that provides sanctuary from the excesses of a few steps away.
Bon Maison features a locked gate that gives direct access to Bourbon Street. This creates a feeling of security and sanity after a long night. The other end of the gated passage is an absolutely charming courtyard garden. There is plenty of seating, a fountain, an aviary and a opportunity to smoke for those that must.
We shared the two bedded suite (which has direct ground floor access from the courtyard) with some very good friends of ours.
It is just as well that we are such good friends as the suite comprises one seperate bedroom that is only accessed from the main bedroom which has the only access to the bath room.
This works well for GOOD friends and should work well for a family but not if you are shy. It is also worth noting that the seperate bedroom does not have a window. The beds are comfortable and the decor is sort of shabby french chic which works well and is in context with its surroundings. The rooms are well equiped and we wanted for nothing.
We think that Bon Maison is the best guest house in NOLA. It is perfectly located, tremendous value for money and run by two very clever and friendly guys.
Very well worth the visit.
