“Truly Enjoyed Our Stay”

Stayed in Bayou Cane. The room was lovely. The staff was friendly and courteous. Property was a small sanctuary set near the hustle and bustle of New Orleans. Truly enjoyed our stay.

I just got back from a fantastic trip to New Orleans where we stayed at the House on Bayou Road. It was all that we could have hoped for! I can't vouch for how it was 6 months ago, but the new manager, Frank, is great! We felt so relaxed and at home while there.

Coffee and tea and snacks were always available at the main house, and the breakfasts were amazing. The staff was very friendly and the room was great. Yeah, the tv was small, but you really need to get out of your room and enjoy the city! For the few times we watched it, it did the job. We used taxis during our stay and they were inexpensive and convenient. I didn't want to deal with driving in a busy city during New Year's, but the other guests seemed to be happy with the secure parking offered by the house.

The neighborhood was fine - like other NOLA neighborhoods. I wouldn't wander around dark alley's at night anywhere in the city so as long as you're smart, you'll be fine. The streets surrounding it were fairly busy and you were just out of the way enough not to be bothered by road noise.

Also, we're a young couple but don't want to be in the Bourbon St. party scene 24/7 so it was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle at night to a 5 minute taxi ride to the hotel. I can only imagine how noisy some of the places in the French Quarter were with how crazy it was on the street.

The next time in New Orleans, the House on Bayou Road will be our lodging of choice!

P.S. This seems like a great place for groups or families as rooms are close enough to be together, but far enough to get some space for yourself. And a lot of the rooms looked big enough to hold quite a few people. We stayed at LaLoutre but would probably try one of the rooms in the main house next time or one of the other cottage's if we came with a group.

  • Liked — Friendliness of the staff, relaxing, breakfasts, convenient location
  • Disliked — Nothing, we loved it all!

We had no idea what to expect. We want on a verbal suggestion with little knowledge. I would have to say it was a wonderful experience. The staff was great to talk with, and you could tell they were looking to continue to make things better. The time period of the house was perserved, although, renevations from some Katrina damage was definitly being addressed (positive). There were no inconviences to the stay. I would have loved a larger TV and even wifi access...yes, it was vacation, and yes, it was new orleans...however, some of us just can't get away from our technology! The private parking off the street and behind a gate was a huge plus -- and one of the reasons we choose to stay. Whether you are trying to get to Jackson Square and the French Quarter, City Park, or sight seeing down to the 9th ward and the canals you can't beat the location!

Beautiful home. It is updated perfectly. I'm used to staying in a hotel, so the things that surprised me were: a tiny TV, uneven heating and trouble getting in the door to check in. But the wonderful things definitely outweighed the drawbacks. The wonderful things were: great breakfast (choice of blueberry or banana pancakes, ham and fresh fruit), great bed and linens (including robe and slippers), friendly staff, speedy tax service, WiFi. This is a good place for a business traveler.

One other item - the rooster did start cockle-doo-adooing at about 6:15. However, the garbage truck woke me up before that at 5:45. This was no biggie since I was still on Eastern time zone.

The Inn is beautiful. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Included breakfasts (made for you) are delicious. One of the main draws besides the charm and service, is the fact that your bill is what you are quoted. No hidden extra charges or fees (which happens more than it should). The price is very fair. Lets not forget the convenience of gated parking included. We plan on staying here every trip to New Orleans.

  • Liked — Feels like a home, only better!
  • Disliked — Tiny TV, but more to do in NOLA than watch it!

found this B&B on "Select Registry". The "House on Bayou Road" is a charming, unique property, attractive rooms (ask for Bayou Self), pool, lovely grounds, about 20 Min. walk from the French Quarter (and worth it). The staff was very helpful and atttentive and the breakfeast changes daily and is excellent.

All in all a wonderful New Orleans experience and far superior to any hotel.

Just returned home from New Orleans where I stayed at the House on Bayou Road with my wife for the first three nights of our week long vacation. Upon arrival the front of the house was locked with no indication of where to go to check in. After searching for any living soul for about 10 minutes the proprietor came out the back door to finally greet us. We were then shown to our room. The room we were given was not what we had booked. We were supposed to be given a superior room but instead checked into a standard room. The room itself was quite small with no sitting area, no amenities to speak of, and an AC which didn't function for two of the three nights of our stay- this is the hottest time of the year in N.O! In other B&Bs we've stayed in they at least provided some decent bathroom amenities like shampoo and conditioner etc... Here we made a tiny bar of soap last our entire stay. Breakfast was complimentary but was lacking in many ways. There was no choice of menu whatsoever and it was assumed by the ownership that everyone staying with them would be okay with the one offering. No continental items to speak of like muffins, danishes, croissants, bisquits etc... The pool was also not in opporation for our entire stay. All in all the condition of the house and the grounds are rough around the edges. We were left with the impression that the House on Bayou Road's glory days reached their peak prior to hurricaine Katrina. There seems to be a bit of penny pinching and corner cutting to make profit margins. To add to the not so wonderful experience was a not so friendly staff. I recommend you spend your hard earned money on a hotel or B&B that will deliver upon its promises. You'll not have a hard time finding a better location elsewhere.
