“Quaint hotel in great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We were in N.O. for a convention, and decided we wanted a few days in more "traditional" area. Totally enjoyed the stay at the Frenchmen Hotel. We had one of the biggest room. Had to hike a fair amount of stairs, so don't do upstairs if you have health leg issues. Some of the rooms we saw were VERY small, so we were happy to have the one with the kIng bed. It's pretty loud there, since the bars are right across the street. At least one night we really enjoyed the band at Vasso's from our bed. Kind of hard for my lite sleeper husband, but he brought ear plugs so he managed. The breakfast is cold cereal and bagels but coffee and tea always available which is nice. I'd recommend it.

Had great stay. We were skeptical of the location since it is on the east edge of the French Quarter. However, if you like the more traditional New Orleans jazz style the scene has moved to Frenchmen St. and this is the place to be. The building is century old in traditional NO style. Well kept. Good around the clock service. $15 parking (a bargain by NO standards). Very limited breakfast, but who needs it in NO.

Room Tip: Try for courtyard 100 to 107

We spent 6 days in New Orleans for a conference. We thought we would spend time down in a more laid back area of the French Quarter....boy were we happy we did. Frenchmen Street is full of good eat and wonderful music without all of the rowdiness of Bourbon Street.

The hotel is a well kept older hotel at the end of Frenchmen St. We reserved the lowest cost room which was fine, but it was terribly small. The rooms were clean but dated (the way everything is in NO). Breakfast was great and staff attended to our every need.

The hotel made you feel you were always in the french quarter because of the inner courtyard to which you took to get to your room.

The area is well lite and seemed very safe.

Room Tip: If staying for more than a couple days, opt for a larger room. Even with the smaller rooms it is fin...

Location is OK if you are visiting the French Quarter; Great if you are into music (jazz & other);
Great spot to utilize the transportation system Initial start for the Trolley system ($3 for an all day pass..per ride for seniors 65+ $.40). Hotel is outdated but probably OK for a New Orleans hotel. Interior is antiqueish, old style furniture etc. My room was too small..shower was built for a small/short person..one window if not curtained can be viewed from a neighbor in hotel..Staff was very friendly..Towels were light as were the bathroom needs.
Hotel is close to a few very restaurants. Praline Connection great creole/southern food..Adolfo's very good Italian food but don't expect clean and modern ambience or interior.

Room Tip: If you are a tall/big person mention at the desk if a room with facilities for such person.

First of all this hotel is located on Frenchman Street where all the best music in New Orleans is being played. The tiny street is dotted with some amazing no cover jazz clubs that are truly unbelievable!! Now the hotel....very charming! Old, yes, but that is one of the reasons you come to New Orleans in my opinion. The room was well appointed and clean. There is a beautiful courtyard with a pool and a hot tub and a roof top deck.

Ok....I saved the best for last....THE STAFF!!!!!!!!!! We were just there during Hurricane Isaac, yes Hurricane Isaac! Right before the storm started one of the staff members (cant remember names darn it) told us he was concerned about one of the windows in our room, so he moved us to a beautiful suite...Nice. When the storm hit naturally the hotel, along with most of New Orleans, lost power. Now, while this is totally out of their control, it is a bummer, because New Orleans is very hot and humid in August. What the staff did during this time was above and beyond anything I have ever experienced. First of all, they had the fire station across the street make coffee for us every morning. Next they had stocked up on food, water, and supplies for their guests. They even provided a barbecue for us including hurricane drinks the night of the big event. And, drum roll please, when we checked out 3 days later than our originally scheduled departure we found out they had comp'd us the 3 additional days!!!!!! They had been running around ragged to try to please us during a hurricane, and still they charged us nothing for our additional stay.

Kudos to the entire staff at The Frenchman Hotel...We will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

love this place - the staff was wonderful, and when the air didn't work in the first room, they quickly moved us. Yes it's a little older, and not a five star turn down place but we felt very well taken care of - they helped us get discounts at attractions, and even called a cab when I got stuck after visiting a museum, I just called the hotel and told them where I was and they sent a cab right to me - now THAT is service!

Room Tip: the ground floor is nice the rooms are well appointed and the ambience is all we could hope for

I love this place. The location is phenomenal! Frenchmen street is where it is definitely happening. I have been traveling to NOLA for 20 years and always do the Bourbon street thing. I was so tired of Bourbon, and I wanted something different and exciting. Frenchmen street is it! Stay at the Frenchmen Hotel! You can still walk to bourbon and do everything there or just chill out on Bourbon street.
I read a review that said if you're a Hilton or Marriot snob...stay out! I agree...This place is about the architecture and the Frenchmen street experience. Troy and kenisha both work at the front desk. They will assist you in anyway they can.
