“stay like a local”

My favorite place to stay in New Orleans if you want to feel like a local. It is a great location near the jazz bars and good eats of Frenchman Street and perfect for avoiding the commercialism of Bourban St. The shopping nearby is great for the art collector all along Royal St. and the French Market only a few minute walk. The adjoining bar is one of the best- decorated bars in the city with a pool table and 2 free drinks for inn guests. We have stayed at the Royal St Inn 5 different times for Jazz Fest and each experience was unique. This year we were in the Bukowski Room just off the street and it was a little noisy, so we went to the bar to use our token and get drunk enough to sleep through the street noise. The upstair suites are much quietier. The third floor "Ghost in the Attic" is my personal favorite because the stained glass window and glow in the dark painted ghost eyes in the bathroom made it really fun. Another year we stayed in the Storyville Suite with the balcony. It is especially good if staying with another couple because of the privacy of an internal door. All the rooms are nice and clean and INEXPENSIVE!

For the past four years have spent an extended weekend at the R-Bar & will be doing it again in Spring 2004. Staff very friendly, price is right, very clean, very N'Awlins, very convenient to Vieux Carre. Walk to streetcar gets you to many places. Don't need a car. Bar is different, great people watching. The two free drinks every night beat what the so-called ritzy joints give you as amenities. Only hotel we've been to where check in & out is at the bar.

I booked a suite here for three of my freinds and I for a weekend of "N'awlins Debauchery". We did not want to stay in a generic high-rise hotel, so we researched bed and breakfasts, but too many of them seemed a little stuffy. Then a freind of mine told me about this funky offbeat "Bed and Beverage" called the Royal Street Inn and R-Bar.The suite was decorated in funky authentic Art Deco style and was clean and in a great location(right between the French Quarter(touristy) and the Marigny/Frenchman Street(funky bohemian). So we got a good taste of both sides of New Orleans. The coolest thing about the Royal Street Inn, is that it is connected to the R Bar.The best way to describe it, is a local watering hole that has a cool/hipster/local clientele while at the same time people seem to leave their "cooler than thou" attitude at the door.AWESOME JUKEBOX!!!!!!!!!!! And we actually had a celeberity encounter(Adam from the Counting Crows) on our last night there.I highly recomend this place if you are looking for a different type of lodging that you wont ever forget!!

I have not been to a better inn. It's one block from Bourbon Street, yet it's still affordable ($75-130). Best of all, instead of a s**** (I mean complimentary) continental breakfast, you get a couple of free drinks. The rooms are clean, and the staff is friendly. Plus, the jukebox is awesome.
