“Lovely historic hotel in the French Quarter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We were looking for a hotel that was in the French Quarter that had a sense of old world charm to it. The Place d'Armes certainly measured up to it. It is a quaint little hotel with a lovely courtyard and pool area. The location in the French Quarter was central and with easy walking distance to the lovely nearby parks and many restaurants. The room was large and spacious, the TV a little dated, but we weren't here to watch the TV. The staff were very friendly. We would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night only on June 5. I wish it had been for longer. The check in was easy. They held our bag while we explored the French Quarter until our room was ready. It was very clean, extremely quiet which was needed after trudging Bourbon Street and the price was great. The only drawback was the continental breakfast... a little stale, but then again that's not the reason I came here. Café du monde was only 2 blocks away. Will I stay here again? Oh Yes!

Check-in was easy and nice. We had to have an attendant take us to our room because unbeknownst to us it opens into a beautifufl courtyard/pool and it has all these random stairs and balconies and snaking room assignments. We would have been walking around bewildered looking for our room. Not the best view and the room was dingy. The bathroom was tiny but at least there was air conditioning. However it was in a perfect location right off of Jackson square and for the time we spent in the room it was perfectly adequate. Don't stay there if you're wanting a luxurious hotel room but if want something coincidently located, not too expensive and nicely staffed then it's great! Also breakfast is very subpar but it's what you expect for a continental breakfast.

Place d'Armes is our favorite hotel in the country. We love the staff, the decor, and the courtyards. They always try to give us our favorite room (I won't tell you which one it is - we'd never be able to get it again.) It has so much of the "French Quarter" atmosphere, it's even been rumored to be haunted, but we've never seen or heard anything unusual. It's very close to St. Louis Cathedral and Cafe du Monde and an easy walk to all the French Quarter sights and sounds. We've stayed there at least 10 times and can't wait to return.

Room Tip: If driving, stop at the Visitors Center and book your room. There are phones set up to connect you...

This place had a most beautiful courtyard. We requested a month in advance for a 2nd level or higher room. We did not get one and were disappointed bc we wanted to sit on balcony and look over whatever view we had. Could not see much from 1st floor room windows except a wedding party taking pictures. Front desk staff were not accommodating at all. Bell lady was helpful, friendly and tried to help us get the upper room. Fortunately only stayed one night. The room was clean and adequate but we wanted more than just a clean place to sleep

Room Tip: Take advantage of the beautiful views and get a guarantee for an upper level room

This is our second stay and Place d'Armes is in a great location in the French Quarter. We were in room 502 and it was quite small. If you opened a drawer in the armoire you couldn't walk between it and the bed. The bathroom needs a good cleaning. There was considerable mold in the shower, especially in the door. I will attempt to attach a photo showing it.

There is also some confusion among staff about how rooms are assigned. According to one lady you cannot reserve a room in the court yard in advance and we reserved months in advance. Another lady said they just assign rooms as you check in.

Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. If we go again we will ask for a larger room and we certainly will go back to New Orleans.

Room Tip: Avoid any room ending in 02 that is not in the courtyard area.

Affordable, perfect location, clean, and friendly. We love this hotel... It's a gem. The rooms are quite big, and no room has a bad view. It was further from Frenchman street, but still very walkable. Located in the middle of everything, yet still quiet.
