Check in was easy; we were allowed to leave our bags before check-in and after we checked-out with ease. We had a courtyard room that opened up right onto the fountain area; couldn't have asked for a better view! The rooms are not modern by any means but the beds were comfortable and the room and bathroom very spacious. Trevor, one of the bellmen, was super helpful with calling us cabs and recommending places to eat. The location was perfect; only steps away from Jackson Square and Cafe DuMonde! The only noise we experienced was our neighbors upstairs in the morning and the occasional foot traffic by our door. Nice breakfast of pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee. We had an amazing experience and plan to come back many times!!

The Place d'Armes is one of three Valentino family owned hotels in the French Quarter. It is located just off Jackson Square facing the Presbytere, which flank St. Louis Cathedral. This makes it accessible to the action, but far enough away to sleep quietly. These hotels are all very reasonably priced for New Orleans, but very low for the French Quarter (normally under $100 including parking & taxes). These hotels are very well-maintained & nicely furnished. This one has a complimentary breakfast. The staff at all hotels is great.

The hotel is definitely very well located...but...
- the women at the check in was very cold... As if it was bothering her to check us in...
- our room (201) was on the street... So, at first we were worried it would be noisy... But the street is actually quiet... And anyway, any street noise was covered by a very strong and constant ventilation noise (I guess the room is next to the room that takes care of the ventilation for the whole hotel). It is unacceptable for a hotel like that to have such a noisy room. The problem is that we only realized how bad it was once we went back in the room at night to sleep... Too late to ask to change of room.
- breakfast was poor quality...
- we were traveling with a baby but the hotel has no microwave oven that we could use to warm up a bottle or some food, no high chair in the breakfast room...
- the parking is very expensive : 28 + tax per day

It's a shame because this hotel could be really nice : the building is beautiful, with a very pretty patio... But it's a huge hotel, with too many rooms... They're just trying to make as much money as they can and forget to care for their clients...

So- when you are driving down St.Ann Street and spot your hotel- you are thinking-is this a dive? Then you drive in and find VERY secure valet parking( your car goes in an elevator to some secret place). You check in and then you find the wonderful New Orleans court yard with pool. That is the New Orleans secret- the outside-not impressive- the inside-great. Our room was very comfortable and the service was great. A breakfast of coffee,tea, and a assorted pastries is complementary. A first rate restaurant is next door. The location of this hotel is within walking distance of all major French Quarter destinations.
