We stayed here during Mardi Gras weekend 2020. Due to Covid, I’m late on the review but it was already written. I wanted to give the hotel its review. Let me start off by saying I’m a Marriott Loyalist who knows brand standards. We recently stayed here during Mardi Gras. Service: from start to finish we ran into the most memorable staff who truly made our stay pleasurable. James the doorman was extremely helpful and knowledgeable every time we came thru he had tips or directions (and we came thru a lot). Michael Douglas did an amazing job making the JW feel like home from check in and when we casually saw him in passing. He was very upbeat, friendly, and knowledgeable. Big THANKS to Michael Douglas and James!!! Room: I highly recommend the corner king room, we had perfect viewing of the parades so we could time crowd control and timing when to head down. The room and bathroom was spacious and had a great layout. We were on the 26 floor and could hear the noise on the streets but you had to turn your tv off to hear the noise. You could only hear noise during parades. The linens were soft and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was very large and had a rain shower with handle, which came in handy. The rooms have been recently renovated and it looks good. The only downside was I found a French fry from the previous occupants near bed and nightstand. Housekeeping needs to do a better job with fine details. Location: this was the perfect location, every major parade passing this hotel which made the experience enjoyable. The hotel gives you wristbands so you are able to use the bathrooms during the parade which is a huge benefit. Also, you are a very short walk to major attractions. Overall, I highly recommend the hotel while in NOLA. This will be my go to hotel going forward.

We stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate a birthday with friends and family. We chose the corner King room and we're very pleased with it. The beds were comfortable (with the exception of the Queen top sheet on the King bed), updated decor, his/her bath robes and nice shower (no exhaust fan). The view wasn't the best for being on the 27th floor, but if you like looking at the rooftops of old moldy buildings, then it's perfect! The food in the lobby bar was delicious and priced right. The adult beverages were way over priced! $12 for a Captain Morgan/Coke!
The JW is right on Canal and there is a lot within walking distance, yet far enough away from the craziness of Bourbon Street to sleep when you're ready.
Should we ever return to NOLA, we'd most likely return to the JW!

Dear Bershell, Thank you for making the JW Marriott New Orleans a part of your celebration of such a special day. We appreciate comments about our quality food, convenient location close to everything the area has to offer, and our graciously appointed accommodations. However, we regret not meeting some of your expectations and value all of your feedback. We are grateful for the perfect rating and look forward to being your home whenever you are in the area. My wife and I had a corner suite with a king size bed and a view looking out into the French Quarter (windows on two sides). The suite was spacious (with a "foyer" that gave an additional feeling of room), with a mini fridge, desk area, and an armoire with plenty of space for hanging and storing our clothes. The bathroom was also well done, with a stand up shower that had ample water pressure. There were some extension plug "blocks" on both sides of the bed giving us plenty of options for plugging up electronics, a very welcomed amenity. As I have shared before with other Marriott properties, LOVE that the TV allows you to sign into Netflix or Amazon Prime directly. Lastly, there was understated touches of elegance throughout, like the full headboard and two robes in our armoire.

Within a minute, you can leave from the front of the hotel, be on Bourbon Street and enter the French Quarter. While you may want to stay actually inside the French Quarter, I personally appreciated having a bit of distance from the music and revelry when it was time for bed, while still being on the edge of the fun.

There is no self parking at this hotel, so we had to rely on valet parking (about $50 a day). While we had a rental, we never ended up getting the car out of the garage and walked to all the places we wanted, although keep in mind I had a conference and my tourist excursions were limited!

There is a daily free breakfast that we enjoyed, but it's technically only for Executive Lounge guests with an elite level of Marriott Bonvoy Rewards. Cafe Beignet is just outside the front of the hotel, but go early -- I showed up at 720 am ten minutes before they opened and there was already a line. (It was well after 8 am before I even placed my order.) There is also a pool but we didn't check it out.

While the room itself was one of our favorite hotel experiences ever, the thing that truly earns the five stars for this property is the customer service, The lobby staff were all extremely friendly and accommodating. The real winning moment was when we were having issues with our room's air conditioning. I called downstairs, and within 15 minutes, a person was at our door. After a few minutes, the issue was fixed with a smile. To have something resolved quickly and pleasantly is a rare treat nowadays.

I highly recommend this hotel!

If you are not a frequent traveller and haven't stayed at dozens of JW Marriotts you may be ok staying here, I will never go back. This hotel is priced below typical JW Marriott rates and there are many reasons why. It is not even close to the luxury, service, and quality that I have come to expect at JW Marriott. There are a few friendly people on the staff but for the most part they do the bare minimum they have to for their jobs. From the moment I arrived I noticed the difference, no one said hello when I came into the hotel and no one offered to help with my bags. The staff is curt and unsmiling. The quality of the hotel is also poor. The walls are so thin you can hear people speaking in normal voices from adjoining rooms, and the hot water stopped working for over 24 hours during our stay! The club lounge is a joke! It seemed like everyone got free breakfast with their stay and they are all given access to the lounge in the mornings.
On weekend mornings they shut the lounge down and make everyone, including Ambassadors eat in a ballroom. This hotel has taken something that is a perk reserved for their top members and turned it into a similar experience as the breakfast at a Courtyard Marriott. To top it all off I was overcharged and they have no one in accounting that you can call and talk to, instead, they give you an email address.
Both my assistant and I left messages with the hotel, including with the manager, and sent numerous emails over a 2 month period with zero resolution. I had to call Marriott Bonvoy customer service before it was finally addressed, worst customer service ever. This hotel needs rebranded to a bargain brand, it is JW in name only and nothing else.

This was one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at and that's saying a lot since we travel so much. We recently decided to become Marriott Bonvoy members and stay at Marriott hotels whenever we can. This is an exceptional hotel. Room was just gorgeous! The marble bathroom and shower were just divine. And being on the 19th floor, we had an amazing view of the French Quarter from our room. They do clean rooms daily now but if you do not want that, you can put do not disturb sign on your door. I'm a fan of having our room made up daily, personally. Masks are required in main areas of the hotel. People were all compliant with this and if you don't have a mask, the front desk will give you one.

Oh and we also took advantage of the Nespresso machine in our room and started each day with a cup or two. We did a package that included parking. It is steep but worth it if you plan on renting a car to go places outside of New Orleans area or are driving in from some place else. Staff was great as well. Very friendly and accommodating. They don't do the free breakfast here, but they do offer options for purchase but we ate elsewhere around town. Didn't get to try out the pool because it was too cold/rainy while we were in town, but I hope to check it out next time I'm in town in a warmer month. It's a really nice pool.

Overall, I couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at this JW Marriott and plan to stay here again next time we're in New Orleans.

I booked the JW with hopes of a luxury hotel that rivals the spectacular JW properties around the country I have been to - Nashville, Austin, etc. The JW New Orleans, however, majorly lacks in a variety of departments. For starters, as a Platinum member, I always call/email the hotel before arrival for an upgrade to a suite. Despite some hotels “policy” for upgrading before arrival, all of them are able to accommodate for me due to my status. This hotel, on the other hand, was not able to do so. The manager I was in contact with for a couple days before arrival wasn’t the nicest and didn’t give me a concrete reason as to why she couldn’t upgrade me until the day of when they were all sold out. Very disappointing that this hotel was not able to upgrade me even during COVID when they were at a near 50% occupancy rate. I saw other reviews stating this as well, so DO NOT stay here if you are a Bonvoy member and want a suite upgrade—they are very stingy about this. In regard to the room I received, a Corner Canal Street View Room, it was nice. The bed was comfy and the bathroom had nice finishings. The view was cool, but the smell of smoke in the hallway (despite this being a “non-smoking” hotel) was not so cool. As with most hotels nowadays, the club was closed and there was a minimal breakfast spread in the “bar” that I didn’t bother as it was slim pickings. As you enter the hotel there is basically no lobby whatsoever. It was one of the most sad and drab lobby’s I have ever seen in a Marriott property.... I paid money with this hotel as I would NEVER recommend spending 50,000+ points here a night (it is not worth it). I got a cheap rate of $134 a night so that’s why I opted for the JW. To be completely honest, this hotel is nothing of the JW caliber, management isn’t the kindest (not outwardly rude, just not enthusiastic and helpful to their loyal members), and the common grounds give a lot to be desired (and that’s not even touching on the “pool” they claim they have — there are barely any chairs and when I went it was already at “Maximum Capacity”). As with a lot of Bonvoy members, you want to stay at a Marriott...however, this one isn’t it. I would recommend the Westin as it is right down the street and just remodeled. I checked that hotel out and the lobby is very nice (and they actually give suite upgrades). Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel in a city where there are hotels at every corner. Save yourself the trouble and stay at the Westin.

There are a lot of missed opportunities with this hotel. We were with a wedding party, so it wasn't exactly my choice, and it's unlikely that I'll be staying here again for the following reasons.

At this price point, I expect a level of service that's simply lacking and no one seems to care about improving it. I saw it in the breakfast room which was hopelessly understaffed and undersupplied. Loyalty club breakfast was in a charmless, florescent-lit ballroom. Compare it to the Ritz's club level and it's laughably pitiful.

The fitness room is very small and sparse. For a hotel that seems to cater to the business traveler, you'd think they'd expand the space, add more equipment, make it a luxurious experience. Sadly, not the case. Fruit-infused water is about all you can expect. Pool area is also small, with no umbrellas to make it even the least bit enticing and attractive.

Lobby bar was sterile and bland, not to mention understaffed. It's also laid out so that the main entrance from the elevator lobby to Canal street flows right through it. Maybe put a bar on BOTH sides of the pedestrian highway to Canal St. so bar patrons don't block the flow? Anybody thinking about these things?

Perhaps most offensive about this JW Marriott is that the staff don't seem happy to be there. Staff at the Ritz, the Windsor, etc - they exude southern charm and hospitality. Not to mention the lovely boutique hotels who really know how to welcome guests to their fine city. Your staff will make or break your guest's experience. Shame on the management for not addressing this issue from the top.

I reserved this hotel a month in advance of the Sugar Bowl for two rooms for family and friends using my Bon Voy app and received a confirmation. . Because I had invited friends and wanted to make sure all was in order, I called the evening before we were to arrive to confirm the rooms and received confirmation around 8:45 pm. At 9:30 that same night I received emails canceling both my rooms. When I called to enquirer I was told they tried to charge a card on file in advance of the stay. When the old card didn’t work they canceled both rooms without calling and —miraculously -sold them before I called to check on the emails minutes later. Since I had Sugar bowl tickets and people coming I had no choice but to rebook at a lower Marriott hotel for a much higher rate than the rate I had. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this was a rouse to resell the rooms for a higher rate for an event. I am very disappointed in Marriott and warn you all that your “confirmation” is worth no more than the paper it is written on. The Marriott Supervisor was rude and insulting and offered me no accommodations, including not even matching the rate I had confirmed. The night manager at the JW was much kinder but could do nothing to help me with his limited authority. I would not trust this hotel or this chain with travel again. Sad to say from a prior Gold Marriott member .

Pros:
Conveniently located on Canal street two blocks from Bourbon with easy access to the streetcars and a short walk to the casino, shopping center and all the French Quarter attractions. Our room was located on the 29th floor near the elevator, however noise was never an issue. It was spacious with a nice desk area and sitting bench along the window. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of drawer and closet space, and outlet areas on the nightstand and desk for charging. The room also had a full-length mirror, mini-fridge, Nespresso machine, iron, ironing board, robes, hair dryer and safe. The ice machine on our floor also had a microwave and touchless filtered water dispenser which was so great for refilling our hydroflasks and for making coffee. The gym and pool area were a good size and I even took advantage of a Tuesday night yoga class that is offered. Just show up as all equipment is provided. There is a bar in the hotel, but take advantage of the happy hour at Fogo de Chao which is located in the hotel. Just right outside the hotel is Cafe Beignet which I personally think is better than Cafe du Monde.

Cons:
I’m not sure why not all hotels provide bathroom fans any more but I think they are needed. The fans help with the moisture faster and honestly when you need some privacy in the bathroom it’s nice to have the white noise, especially with this bathroom because it had a barn door which really didn’t provide privacy as it did not close securely. I even pinched my fingers a few times because the door kept sliding off the track. Our safe did not work, but our stay was so short that I just opted not to have our room serviced and placed the DND card on the door so housekeeping would not enter.

Overall, a nice hotel and friendly staff. I felt safe staying here as your key card is needed to enter the hotel from the Canal Street side and to get to your floor in the elevator. There was also plenty of staff around to make sure everyone was being helped. We stayed here for a company business trip and it seemed the majority of guests were in New Orleans on business.

We stayed at the JW Marriott in March 2022 for 3 nights. The location is good, but it did not feel like a luxury property in any way. The rooms are recently renovated, but nothing is especially nice about them, not much light or furniture (not even luggage racks). The faux marble in the bathroom seems cheap for a hotel of this class. The gym is decent, and the outdoor pool is nicely heated. HOWEVER, the building is doing exterior construction, and the pool area is an ugly, noisy construction zone, although they still allow guests to use it. (The construction noise woke us up the first day). We called for foam pillows the first night, no one delivered them. The second night, we waited in line at reception for the pillows, it took an hour for someone retrieve them. The Executive Lounge is especially disappointing. The breakfast is very low quality. Inedible breakfast sausage and scrambled eggs and pastries from Costco. It is what you'd expect from a Springhill Suites in a corporate park in the suburbs. There are few tables for the overcrowded breakfast crowd to use, so people are use ottomans and coffee tables to eat their meals. Other than that, the lounge is offering very limited services "due to COVID" (despite no one wearing masks and no one limiting social distancing during the crowded breakfast hours). Outside of breakfast, nothing else is offered in the lounge throughout the entire day except coffee, water, soft drinks, and bagged chips.
