“Great location and nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

JW Marriot
Came down to NOLA for 4 days of vacation and chose the JW for their stay with breakfast package. We arrived around 11 a.m. had requested early check-in and our room was ready. The lobby was sleek and modern. The staff from the doormen, to the front desk and the concierges were all friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was a corner room on the 15th floor with a small view of the Mississippi and the French Quarter from one window and Canal Street from the other. Because it was a corner, you walked down the hall to the closets (with mini-fridge and safe) and bath. The sink was outside and the bathroom had a toilet and shower/tub combo. The room had at least 4 mirrors (maybe 5). Bed was comfortable and room was clean and quiet. All the table tops were marble and the room had a large desk and 2 comfortable chairs and a table. Knowing it was going to be hard to eat healthy in NOLA we picked a breakfast package where we knew we could start our day off right. Breakfast was a buffet (they did have a regular menu but it wasn’t on our package). Besides the standard chafing dishes, every day they had made to order egg white omelets, Belgium waffles, bagels, lox (smoked salmon) and low fat cream cheese, a wonderful assortment of fresh fruit, low fat yogurt, grits, homemade granola and cold cereal. The front entrance and driveway for cars and taxis is on a side street and since we were walking or taking a street car most of the time we found ourselves entering and exiting through the Canal Street entrance which is next to the restaurant. My only complaint about the hotel is that there is no doorman or anyone to greet you when you enter the hotel on Canal Street and after 11 the door is locked on Canal and you needed to use your key to enter the hotel. Other than that we were very happy with our stay.

Dear Helene W,

We appreciate your detailed feedback. As a proud hotel representing the prestigious JW Marriott brand, we make it a priority to ensure that each and every detail is just right. In New Orleans, where there's no shortage of options, we believe our elegant rooms, signature amenities, and unparalleled service set us apart.

We are happy to see that you booked our breakfast package, which is known for an exceptional array of food items. It's the most important meal of the day, so we try to provide options that hit the sweet spot between healthy and decadent.

I've taken note of your concern regarding the entrance on Canal Street. Since we're always looking for ways to improve, I can't thank you enough for sharing your thoughts. Hopefully you'll choose to stay with us again during your next visit to New Orleans. No two trips are ever the same, so please let us know if we can help put together another amazing itinerary.

Sincerely,

Ted Selogie

I really liked the friendly service at JW Marriott New Orleans. Rooms were nice and clean. We had trouble with the toilet flushing and the service guy fixed it quick. Any request were fulfilled in a timely fashion whether it was room service or getting towels switched out. Our favorite part of this hotel was that there was a hotel bar with a bartender name George! Friendly guy and very helpful with places to go. We talked almost like we were old friends. He deserves a raise!!! - SF,Cali

Great locations and an overall beautiful hotel. The employees should have been more helpful in pointing out thinks to do other than bourbon street and the market. It seemed to be a trend in the city in general... I've never been to a city where so many people were uneducated about their surroundings. Especially in a huge tourist city such as New Orleans!

Dear Mini_B73,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. While we're pleased you were able to take advantage of our fabulous, central location, we're disappointed to hear you weren't pleased with the recommendations from our staff. Service is one of our highest priorities and our team takes great pride in our ability to cater to all guest needs and requests. Many of our associates are lifetime residents of the city, however we apologize they were not able to help you with recommendations to help you see all that New Orleans has to offer.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our beautiful property on your next New Orleans visit, so our staff can show you the JW Marriott quality of service our loyal guests have come to expect. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist with a future stay.

Sincerely,

Cole Wallace

Can't say enough good things about this hotel and their wonderful staff. From front desk, to house cleaning to attendants at doors they are all wonderful, hard working, dedicated staff and are their for your comfort. The Canal Street Grill located in the hotel has some of the best food I have eaten. The steaks are to die for. Did not have the brunch due to time but it looked amazing. I would highly recommend this hotel to any and all.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 27th floor. Heard no noise at all from the hotel or its guest. Elevators were conv...

Dear Selina B,

Hearing our staff described as "wonderful" and "hard-working" brings a smile to all of our faces. It was our pleasure to host you in New Orleans, and we can only hope it's the first of many trips to our fine city. We also appreciate your kind words about Canal Street Grill. Our culinary team; takes pride in delivering the quality and flavor that NOLA is known for. With a menu like that, you simply can't go wrong. The same goes for our brunch menu, which is also, as you put it, "to die for." Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help plan a return trip. We look forward to hosting you again soon!

Sincerely,

Cole Wallace

Our stay at the hotel for our anniversary was fabulous. From the moment we checked in, everyone was very courteous and accommodating. Our bartender George made delicious cocktails and was very friendly. He suggested local restaurants to check out and made sure our stay was excellent. Deborah also makes amazing drinks. Our suite was luxurious with a great view on the 30th floor. Andrew, the connoisseur, was very attentive and organized our spa day and room service. Suggest trying Pelican Club for a nice dinner and Bombay club for drinks. Will definitely be staying there again.

I'm going to stop short of a rating of 5, because I simply didn't think this hotel deserved it. This hotel was very nice. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. It was nice having a newer LCD TV that I could hook an HDMI cable in. A lot of hotels still have old CRTs or special TVs with those ports disabled.

I didn't bother with room service so I can't comment on that.

The fitness center was VERY nice. Well stocked with plenty of equipment, both free weights and machine weights. Water bottles in the gym are complementary and the refrigerated towels were a nice touch.

Being right on Canal street, you've got super quick access to the French Quarter. Definitely a plus.

I ate at the Canal Street Grill in the hotel. Formerly known as Shula's Steakhouse. The food was good, but overpriced. I'll review that separately.

The hotel bar is large and drinks were poured just right.

Overall, my stay at the JW Marriott was very pleasant. Just not "fantastic".

This is a nice comtemporary hotel. Walking distance to the French Quarter and to the Casino. Friendly staff of people. Clean. Just a cvery nice place to stay.

plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from. I'd recomment the Palace Cafe, directly across the street. Exceptional rest.

Normally, I'd give this hotel 5 stars but I had some minor issues so this rating would have to settle for 4 stars.
