“Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Hotel is very clean and rooms are very well appointed. The restaurants in hotel are not inexpensive, but the food is very good Staff helpful and very knowledgeable about the Quarter and all events happening in New Orleans. Location EXCELLENT - just a few blocks from French Quarter and walking distance to Convention Center and many great restaurants.

Stayed here at the beginning of September just after the city returned to normal after Hurricane Isaac. The hotel was lovely, and great value as we purchased it through Lastminute.com. The room was immaculate and cleaned daily. Great location, just two blocks to Bourbon Street but a little longer walk to the riverside. You are well connected to the trams that will take you to the main areas during daylight hours or you can walk through the streets and soak up the architecture and atmosphere.

The hotel staff were not that friendly, and on occasion seemed a little cold. Most people that stayed here seemed to be on business rather than holiday makers. So don’t expect the staff to bend over backwards to make you feel special. On one occasion the concierge was actually quite patronising.

There were a lot of people staying with pets which was surprising for me as we have never seen animals checked into hotels. Even though we were in a no smoking room our hallway always smelt of smoke.

I would say that if you stay here; ask if the room is adjoining another. Unfortunately we were woken at the early hours by the people in the next room who came home at 3am and were making a great deal of noise for 2 hours. If there was not a door connecting the two rooms I’m sure it wouldn’t have been a problem.

The mini bar was expensive and the same pricing was reflected in room service, so if you’re heading home late make sure you eat before you get back to the hotel. breakfast wasnt available or included.

The roof top swimming pool was lovely especially by night where you could sit on a sun bed and read and enjoy the night sky.

Overall a lovely hotel, nice, clean comfortable beds, big screen TV all the luxuries you need on a city break.

Room Tip: Ask if the room is adjoining any others as you can hear clearly what goes on.

I booked this stay with a third party online company (spent at least half of what the hotel normally charges) and check-in went smoothly. We were even offered an upgrade after we asked. Our room was clean, modern and beautiful, the bed was very comfortable. Room service was prompt and the service impeccable. There was free wireless however you had the option to upgrade to faster speeds for a fee. Valet service was polite and fast. The location was great - close enough to the french quarter, but yet far enough that the noise of late night revelers was not an issue. The walk to the french quarter was less than 10 min, and more than manageable even with the heat because you're pretty much in the shade (for the taller buildings) for the majority of the time. The only issue I had - no HD signal on the flat screen in the room.

I stayed at this hotel to attend a conference that was also in the hotel so I had a lot of "indoor" time there. I was lucky and was given an upgraded room with a balcony. The good news is that the balcony was quite large and there were a couple of chairs and a table for you to sit and enjoy. The bad news is that the balcony looks directly to the next door office building (which means they can be looking at you) and there was only a sliver of view of the city. I did not pay for my upgrade but I saw signs at the front desk offering the upgrade for a fee. The balcony is not worth it, in my opinion.

The room was nicely appointed and the bed quite comfortable. There is a safe in the closet and a mini-bar if you like overpriced junk food. The bathroom was fine except that the shower was a tiny nozzle - unusual in an upscale hotel. The room had a large flat panel TV and a selection of cable channels, but none of them were in hi-def. There was wireless (only) internet offered at several tiers: You could get the slowest (.5 Mbs) for free or pay for higher speed service all the way up to 8 Mbs. I took the free option and, while it was slow, it didn't degrade to unusable in the evenings like so many other hotels.

I did not have a car so I didn't have the expensive parking issues. The hotel is not that far away from the French Quarter or the river, but it is not next to anything except some CBD office buildings. The walk to the tourist areas can easily get sweaty in the New Orleans humidity and at night you want to be vigilant. The hotel is right on the St. Charles trolley line but it was not running while I was there.

I thought this was a very nice hotel, overall. If I was going to New Orleans as a tourist, however, I would try to get closer to the French Quarter.

I understand this hotel has a wide variety of available rooms- my review is for the "low end" rooms only- ranging in the $200 per night category. While this hotel is a beautiful hotel on the outside and inside with an impressive lobby and even more impressive conference centers, I found our room to be somewhat of a disappointment. Not only was the bed perhaps one of the most uncomfortable I've ever left slept on (hard mattress with hard pillows), the A/C in the room seemed to be in need of repair. At 63 degrees, the room was "cool" but definitely not cold as you would expect. In addition, the shower was very outdated with a slow stream of water that , while hot, didn't provide a soothing shower. The hotel is located in the center of everything however, so for convenience and outside appearance, I give it three stars.

My husband and I arrived at the Intercontinental New Orleans on St. Charles on Friday, Sept 7 and checked out on Sunday. Stayed for $84 a night by bidding on Priceline about a month prior. Always a gamble, but this one turned out terrific for the $. Checked in around 1:00pm and given a room with a king bed. This hotel has 1 queen bed rooms, so we were grateful. Called for towels and the staff was very prompt and friendly. Called for towels, pillows, and extra blanket second night and no problems. Room was very clean and pretty, but beds need replacing and some touch ups here and there. Water flow in the shower was weak, but the water was hot and still a good shower. There's a little fridge for items to purchase, but we put our own stuff in there. Wasn't the coldest, but it worked. We were on the 12th floor with not much to look at until midnight when we were pleasantly surprised with a jazz band leading a parade of people down the street singing "When the Saints go Marching in." Probably a wedding party. Thin walls, but noise was tolerable and didn't hear much at night from other guests.

Pool was small, but on top floor. Had lounge chairs and was nice place to relax. Was quiet. The fitness center is connected with view of pool. Spacious, tv's, lots of windows with light.

The Veranda Restaurant is pretty, but overpriced and overrated. Ordered an omelet, beignets, and coffee. Omelet was bland, beignets hard and nasty, and getting a second cup of coffee was a chore. I had no cream. Service mediocre. Worst breakfast I've ever had in New Orleans. Should've walked a block to another restaurant.

The location is superb if your going to the French Quarter or Superdome. Three blocks from the quarter and about a half mile walk to the dome. Felt pretty safe walking to both locations during the day, just be really observant at after dark. There's a mini-mart across the street with snacks and deli sandwiches, good snowballs too. Finding a place to eat in walking distance shouldn't be a problem. The streetcar runs right in front of hotel, but is down for repairs. There is a bus running in it's place if you need to get uptown.

Leave your car parked. If you choose valet, your going to pay at least $32/24hrs. We parked at E-Z park garage one short block away on Carondelet for $10/24hrs. Very convenient and safe, but no in and out unless you want to keep paying. No attendant. Pay by credit card.

One note on Priceline: It's non-refundable! You can buy the insurance, but that's not even a guarantee. You don't know what kind of bed you'll get or where you'll stay.

rooms were clean, breakfast was great, we had a special from Travelzoo where the kids ate free and you got a day pass for the trolley and the bus. our room safe was locked already and they couldnt open it and had to install another but not a big deal. The hotel is right there close to bourbon st, the french market and everything else we wanted to do.
