“Grande Hotel in the Big Easy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

The Roosevelt is a fine hotel in the tradition of the other Waldorf-Astoria properties. It is located off Canal St near the French Quarter, within a 5-10 min walk of the Riverfront and other distinations. The lobby is a remarkable and welcoming admixture of architectural style . The lobby bar (Sazarac) and Restaurant (Dominica's) are inviting and fit "just right" into the decor. There are two room towers--the original dating backto the 1890 and a second tower built (I think) in the 30s. I stayed in the older tower, and my room was spacious, comfortable and well-appointed by any standard.
The hotel took a major hit from Katrina and was out of commission for almost 4 years. Whoever came up with the $ to repair the place spent it well. If you have the chance to stay here while in New Orleans, don't pass it us. And have a Sazarac in the lobby bar--it's the only place in town that knows how to make it right.

One downside note: Canal Street at night is a very sketchy place even today. DO NOT go out for a walk after 10.

This hotel offers elegance from the 1930's and 40's. The rooms are up to date with all the upgrades but there are tiny traces of the Deco influence remaining through out the hotel. The hotel bar is a special place with strong deco influences warmth and comfort. A great place to relax or meet for a business conversation.

The Roosevelt is not to be missed. Right across Canal Street from the French Quarter, with easy access to the Warehouse and the Garden Districts as well. Also would be a convenient place to stay if attending an event at the Super Dome. It would also be the perfect setting for a wedding reception as the lobby and main floor are gorgeous and reminiscent of the glory days of travel. Rooms were nicely appointed. Staff were courteous and helpful. We will be back for sure.

We stayed here for a visit to New Orleans and it was wonderful. It is truly an elegant and ornate grand old hotel but it is not old and tired. We had a suite that was spacious and the bedroom was a real separate room with a great bed. The shower was completely renovated and great. If you are planning on spending a lot of time in the French Quarter, it is the best of both worlds as it is across the street from the French Quarter but you do not have to deal the noise and the crowds as it is on the other side of Canal Street. The St. Charles and Canal Street street car lines are right outside the hotel. On either corner are large CVS and Walgreens that are open to midnight. We had drinks at the Sarzneac (sp) bar as well as breakfast there, which although somewhat pricey was excellent. After a late night, you really appreciate the 24 hour room service that is available. If you want to be pampered and treated royally, then this is the hotel for you. The staff was great and attentive from providing details on how to get around the city to check in and out to storing our bags after check out while we toured the city.

Room Tip: As the hotel is surrounded by other large buildings, focus not on views but on the room. We had a s...

I was sceptacle about staying at the Roosevelt, but my company sent me here on business. I had been here many times nearly 30 years prior to see shows at the Blue Room - an awesome jazz club. Back then the Blue Room was the only good thing about the hotel - it was a dump. 30 years later, a new name and many millions of dollars later - the hotel is beautiful. It is a grand old lady with spectacular lobby and beautiful appointments. The staff are excellent and well trained, the rooms - although small, are well appointed, comfortable and the beds are great! excellent ammenities, good food - and a great place to stay. Your not in the quarter - but just a stone's throw away - and it's not a problem. I'll go back!

The Roosevelt is by far the most elegant hotel I've ever stayed in. Everything about the hotel is top notch. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The location can't be beat. I was there during Mardi Gras and the hotel was right on several of the parade routes, and very close to others.

The Roosevelt New Orleans is an elegant classic hotel for the modern world. Everything was top notch: sheets, towels, robes, bathroom amenities (Salvatore Ferragamo),… all in all, very luxurious! More than recommended.
