“Excellent Experience, Amazing Location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2010

My husband and I stayed at the Dauphine Orleans for the 2nd week of Jazz Fest, 5 nights, 6 days and were very happy! The Temperpedic beds are exactly what we needed after a day at the fairgrounds of dancing! We slept wonderfully!! We were on the 4th floor, the room was a perfect size, and very quiet. Not a peep from the parties on the streets (which are actually a couple blocks away, another reason we picked this street), and we slept like babies! The continental breakfast is not huge, but exactly what you need to get your day started, we enjoyed having waffles and some coffee before headig out to JazzFest every day. The housekeeping staff was soooo attentive and catered to all our needs, even allowing us to really sleep in most mornings without coming back! Our room was always spotless upon our return!! We will definitely use this hotel again for any future trips to JazzFest, all the amazing restaurants are a walk away (Recommend GW Fins, Oceana and Deanie's Seafood!). The hotel bar is a great place to unwind after a long day walking around the city or dancin'!
People on this website that complain about this hotel honestly wouldn't be happy anywhere!!! "Not getting my balcony" does NOT seem like a good reason to give this hotel 2 stars, if you are planning on spending so much time in your room that a balcony is going to ruin your trip, GET OUT OF NOLA!!!!! The city is bursting and the DAuphine only adds to it's charm!

We stayed here during the first weekend of the Jazz and Heritage Festival, and the hotel was completely booked. This hotel has the advantage of being in the Quarter and so is close to many attractions. Bayona restaurant is excellent and is right across the street; Bourbon street is a couple of blocks further. We found two other fairly good, moderately priced restaurants -- Deannies and Oceana (great crab cakes!) - within easy walking distance.
Our fourth floor room was small and sparsely, though adequately, furnished. Good bed, good shower. The staff at the front desk were helpful and courteous.
The downside, however, is the parking lot around which the main hotel is constructed. The attendants shout at each other almost constantly, and the noise comes up through the central atrium -- the shouting began around 7 am and lasted until after midnight on each night of our stay. I would strongly recommend requesting a room that does not look on to the parking lot as the management seems to be nonexistent, and it's clear that the shouting is tolerated.
I would also recommend finding your own cab service if you need one to get to the airport. The parking attendant (head shouter) seems to be in charge of booking the taxis. He had told us the taxi would cost between $33 and $40 for our return trip, but Marco (the hotel's "regular" cab driver) charged us $56. He also did a racist antil-Obama rant for much of the trip.
Except for those complaints, we were pleased with our stay at the hotel.

But that's about all. I reserved the room (for 2 adults) and specified we wanted a balcony. Reserved well in advance. Got there at 3:00 p.m. and no balcony rooms available. And the hotel clerk didn't bother to mention it ... When I saw the cramped room with two double beds, a bathroom where the toilet took up most of the floor space, and one tiny window, I called the desk and then he said he reduce our rates to standard rates! The reduced rate was more than I would have paid if I had reserved a standard room to begin with. And I must have had the only really crappy bed in the hotel. Other reviews seem to love the bed... I hated it. My husband and I rolled together from side to side and top to bottom. It was like sleeping (or not) in a hole! And the internet didn't wrk so there was no "business area". Apparently if you can get in the part across the street from the main hotel you get a nice courtyard, etc., Not so in the main building w/o balcony!

The positives: very pleasant staff, good and reasonably quiet location, comfortable beds, nice courtyard with a small pool.
The negatives: during busy afternoon, a single person staffed the front desk, meaning lines and delays for check-in. Bathrooms have a "wand" shower that hits you mid-chest, if you're short.

Completely charming. The "river side" of the hotel surrounds a quaint and typical New Orleans courtyard, the other side contains the bar and a salt water pool - both crucial ingredients to a June trip to New Orleans, we discovered. The location is perfect - in the quarter but happily removed from Bourbon Street - and about five blocks from Canal Street and street car access.

This hotel is centrally located. It is only a block off of Bourbon. Would venture toward Rampart though. The bed was a memory foam mattress. Adorable little room. My main problem with the hotel is that the parking garage is on the two bottom floors of the hotel. The noise travels up the courtyards above. Constant noise from parking attendants and cars all night. Maybe not all rooms have this problem, but our's did.

I can't imagine staying at a better place in NOLA. We stayed in the building across the street from the main hotel and it had a lovely courtyard - it was very peaceful and serene. The room was spacious and newly decorated with a small refrigerator (great for leftover food from the many wonderful restaurants). It was very close to the action, yet it seemed very far removed from the craziness of Bourbon St. The hotel staff is gracious and very good at making restaurant recommendations (Deanie's Seafood is close by and terrific). We also enjoyed our complimentary drink at Mae Baileys and the continental breakfast. A fairly basic continental breakfast, but you could eat it outside in their lovely courtyard near one of their pools. Rates are good - and they sometimes run specials, such as complimentary parking. This is a great place to stay in NOLA.
