“Wonderful hotel in a wonderful city.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2010

I recently stayed at the Cornstalk during the NEA convention and was very pleased with my experience. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure that our experience was great. The room was cool, which was a blessing in the New Orleans heat! We were able to enjoy the balcony just outside our room. It is a great place to stay if you enjoy a more personal experience at a hotel. There was none of the coldness of a large chain hotel. The rest of my group had booked rooms in a different hotel and were miserable. They complained of the constant noise inside and outside of their hotel. We had none of this....the entire experience was peaceful!

If you want to experience New Orleans history..........you should start your trip with a stay at the Cornstalk. The hotel is a trip back in time, romantic, exquisite combined with good old southern hospitality. Louis and his staff could not be more attentive to our needs and comfort.
If you want to be in the historic French Quarter, away from the craziness of Bourbon St, but still close enough if you choose, away from the typical sterile setting of the chain hotels, close to all the galleries, boutiques, Jackson Sq, French market..........this is the place to stay.

I thought it would be great to spend my wedding night at this quaint French Quarter hotel. To sum it up...The room was very hot upon check in. The room was lovely, but there is no thermostat in the room, so you have to rely on the hotel manager to control the temperature. The windows do not open. There is no blow dryer or shampoo provided like a typical hotel. No coffee or food offered like a B&B. If you want to park there, do not plan on moving your car until you check out. And I was overcharged for parking with no explanation. The manager complained that I had too many people in my room while dressing for my wedding, even though I had told him prior that the photographer and bridesmaids were meeting at the hotel. I only had a total of 8 people there for 2 hours, but apparently that was unacceptable. We couldn't sleep due to the bright sun in the morning and the temperature of the room during the night. If you stay there, I suggest you stay in a room in the back not the front, although the front rooms do have the best view. It's a great location overall, but I was disappointed with the service and the fact that I was overcharged.

This is a lovely small hotel offering personal attention. Louis seems available at all hours to answer your questions about local attractions, recommended restaurants, transportation, etc. His recommendations of spot on! The hotel is recently renovated and offers the elegance of times past. We thought the price was reasonable. The location is almost perfect- near excellent places to eat and on Royal Street, a lovely place to shop for antiques and all things New Orleans except "booze and broads."

The manager Louis made my friend and I feel so uncomfortable that we chose not to stay in the hotel and left! I am usually a very patient and amicable person and have never done anything like that before but he treated us so poorly!

We called to tell him that we were on our way and when we arrived at the hotel, we stood at the front door in the rain ringing the bell for two or three minutes before he answered.

Then, even though he already had one of our credit card numbers, he wouldn't even let us park out car and come inside before we filled out the paperwork! He demanded that we go back to our cars and get all of our information. In the dark and the rain, after we had made a long car ride.

Not to mention it's $30 a night to park "smaller" cars and $40 to park "larger ones" at the hotel. On top of $200 a night for a room? Gee, thanks. We asked about this and he said he had to charge us because of the "corporate overlords." Some bed and breakfast.

Not to mention, the whole time Louis was dealing with us he was wearing only socks! Ewww!!

Don't stay here, If you want a real New Orleans bed and breakfast experience head to the Auld Sweet Olive in the Margny.

I simply do not know why anyone could give this place less than 5 stars. Our room was AMAZING - it far exceeded our expectations, as did the service. The place is absolutely beautiful and in a perfect location, safe and close to lovely boutiques, restaurants and galleries in the French Quarter. I was amazed at the price we paid, $185 night, a place this nice could easily go for more. The horse drawn carriage tours all stop right out front AND this hotel is one of the most photographed locations in the French Quarter - and for good reason - it is beautiful! You will also understand why the rich and famous choose to live across the street! I absolutely recommend this hotel. Maybe it's more expensive than some places you could stay a few blocks away but it is WELL worth it. The high ceilings and decor of the entire place... just WOW! Stay here!
