“What A Lovely Bed and Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

Hosts Tom and Dana were the most engaging, service-oriented hosts who straightaway made us feel at home and excited about being in their hometown. They plyed us with suggestions and ably answered all our queries. This old Creole compound was built in the 1840s and has so much charm with soothing fountains. fishponds, turtles and gorgeous southern vegetation. The Peach Blossom room was lovely and not at all noisy when the hosts were busy preparing breakfast next door, although we had been told it might be. And the breakfasts: a sumptious egg casserole one day and waffles the next with great conversation and the hosts joining in. It was just perfect to walk back to this idyllic hideaway from the French quarter at the end of the day.

We stayed at the B&W Courtyards this past October. This little B&B has the best of everything, the best location, the best rooms, the best breakfasts and the best hosts. We absolutely loved the location, just outside of the quarter in the Marigny section of New Orleans. It was an easy walk to the quarter, to transportation and to the best local music on Frenchman Street. As an added bonus there is a little restaurant called the Cake Cafe, right across the street. Make sure you stop in there for a cupcake, biscuits and coffee. We stayed in the Courtyard Room, which is advertised as having a very small bathroom. I was a little worried about this, but soon found that while small, it is certainly big enough and caused us no inconvenience. The room was beautiful. The bed was as comfy as our bed at home. I slept like a lamb there. We also loved the sound of the fountains outside the window, which were soothing and restful. The breakfasts were delicious and very filling. Sweet potato pancakes, bread pudding, homemade granola and heavenly Cafe du Monde coffee. We stayed at the B&B during the changeover from hosts Kevin and Rob to Dana and Tom. Both hosts were ready with information about restaurants and activities, and willing to accommodate our every need. On our last day we were able to check out, leave our bags in an empty room and go out shopping until our flight left at 6pm. Every day after breakfast we went back to our tidied room and found a freshly made bed, fresh ice and clean linens. The best part for me was feeling that I was home there, not in a hotel. Can't say enough. Definitely the best place to stay while vacationing in NOLA.

My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary with a trip to New Orleans. I had been to NOLA before, but it was my husband's first time. We had originally picked B&W Courtyards from all the great reviews and comments about the hosts Rob and Kevin, but found out shortly before departing that the B&B had been sold to new owners. Not to worry, Tom and Dana were excellent hosts! Tom makes some wonderful breakfasts, I particularly enjoyed the sausage and pepper quiche, and my husband said the sweet potato waffles were excellent. The location of this B&B is perfect, in the Fabourg Marigny, just outside the French Quarter. The walk from the B&B to the French Quarter is quite pleasant, taking you through a colorful residential neighborhood. The music of Frenchmen Street is only 4 blocks away, and fantastic jazz can be heard 7 nights a week. The inn is built around 2 beautiful courtyards, with the sounds of birds and fountains there to greet you when you return from your busy day. The innkeepers were very acomodating of the fact that we needed to leave on 2 different mornings before the normal breakfast time of 8:30 am, and Tom and Dana made sure we still had a hot breakfast before we left! We will be back again, and look forward to watching you two put your personal touches on the place!

My husband and stayed 3 nights (in two different rooms) in October of 2013. We arrived just six days after the new owners took over the b&b. We had not stayed here before but will gladly stay again!

We love the neighborhood, the Faubourg Marigny. It is within walking distance of the French Quarter but has much more of a residential feeling. We walked to the Quarter each day, and walked home at midnight one night and felt perfectly safe. The other two nights we did take a cab back, but that had to do with tired feet!

The first room we stayed in was the Courtyard bedroom - the room described as having the very small bathroom. It is small, but manageable. We loved the decor, with the swinging doors and huge bed. Our favorite thing, though, was listening to the sounds from the fountain just outside the window. We even kept our window open both nights so we could hear the soothing sounds of the fountain. The room was very clean and was stocked with a decanter of some type of alcohol and mints! We were in this room for two nights.

On our last night, we moved to the Front Carriage House. Our reason for the move was that at the time we made our reservations, there weren't any rooms available for all 3 nights. On the day of the move, we just left our suitcases in the original room, and the housekeeper moved them to the new room for us. This was another delightful room, although I preferred the first room. The bed was huge - it seemed to take up the whole room! There was a sofa in the room - I don't know if it was a fold-out couch as we had no need of it so didn't try to find out. If you are a light sleeper, you might not want to choose this room. I was startled out of a deep sleep at 5:30 a.m. when the garbage truck went by and made a lot of noise. The bathroom is very different - very, very different. You will just have to find out for yourself, but I can promise that you have never had a bathroom like this! Very unique!

Prior to staying at the B&W, we had spent five nights in a nice enough hotel right in the French Quarter. The mattresses/bedding at the B&W felt like Heaven after staying at the hotel. So many hotels are going with a minimalist environment of NO blankets, just sheets and a lightweight cover on the beds. I get cold easily and I am not warm enough with just sheets and a light blanket - I need real blankets/comforters! And we had that in abundance at B&W - very comfortable beds with even enough blankets/comforters to keep me warm! Oh, and forgot to mention - robes for guests hanging in the closet!

We enjoyed the fountains and watching the fish in the small pond, and I loved all of the eclectic decorating in the courtyard area.

Breakfasts were very good (although we didn't stay to eat breakfast on the last day as we had to get a very early start). We had quiche one morning (3 different types of quiche to choose from), and fruit. On the next day, we had sweet potato waffles with syrup and fruit, also very good. All beautifully presented in the dining room.

Tom seemed to be very well informed on all of the activities/events going on in New Orleans and was happy to share his knowledge.

One final thing - we always have a vehicle in New Orleans, which is a huge nuisance due to parking restrictions, cost of parking, etc. We were very happy to find free parking right outside of the entrance to B&W Courtyards. We parked our car the day we arrived and didn't move it again until the day we left!

We enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back!

Room Tip: We preferred the Courtyard Bedroom where we were lulled to sleep by the sounds coming from the fount...

We loved everything about B&W Courtyards. It's in a great part of town, with the advantages of being in a charming residential area while still very close to the French Quarter. The courtyards with their water features are lovely, and the room was very comfortable. Our host had explained that it was one of the smaller rooms - the bathroom in particular - but this was not a problem for us at all. The sense of peace, quiet and coolness was a delight every time we came through the entry area. We were there during during the handover period from Rob and Kevin, original hosts of the B&B to Tom and Dana - previous guests who loved the place so much they moved there and took it over. Kevin's breakfasts are legendary, and Tom and Dana were taking careful note. Ditto re Rob's exceptional guide to New Orleans food, shopping and activities, with the addition that Tom is a wealth of knowledge about the music and musicians of the town. The proximity of B&W Courtyards to Frenchmen Street was one of the things that attracted us in the first place, and Tom's advice helped us make the most of it. So much nicer than a hotel - we can't wait to go back.

Our visit to NOLA would not have been the same staying anywhere else! We were a little worried that we might miss out by not being in the Quarter; our worries were unfounded. If you are looking for glass and brass - go stay in a hotel. The accommodations here were very comfortable and most charming. It's close to transportation, and the walk into the Quarter is delightful. The proprietors helped us with recommendations for restaurants and entertainment and all of their suggestions were spot on. And, it's just a few blocks from Frenchman St - the best music in town. The breakfast was exquisite, every morning. We will definitely stay here again.

My husband and I just came back from the most fabulous weekend in New Orleans, which was only made special by the amazing stay at B&W Courtyards. From the outside, the B&B looks like a typical residential home, but once you enter the front door into the courtyard, you are quickly whisked away into an oasis of beautiful water fountains and gardens. We stayed in the Small Suite on the 2nd floor of the Main House. It was lovely. The bed was to die for and both of us slept better than we do in our own bed at home. It was peaceful and quiet and well appointed. The B&B is also very centrally located and minute from the French Quarter.
Now, to the best part - Rob and Kevin. Words cannot even describe how amazing these two are. Not only are they gracious hosts, but they are people you want to keep in your life forever. I could have spent my entire day with them instead of touring the beautiful city of New Orleans. Kevin prepares the most amazing breakfast - one morning we had sweet potato waffles and another morning, homemade apple turnovers. There is a lot of food to be had in this City, but the breakfast was a great way to start off the day. Also, before arriving to the B&B Rob prepares a listing of his favorite things to see, do and eat in New Orleans. His recommendations were spot on and he also spent time with us over breakfast with a map telling us about his favorite places and how to plan out the day.
If you have the priviledge, you must stay here - this is coming from a very picky traveller ;).
