“A bit of quiet gentility, art and history in the Quarter.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2012

There are stunning pottery collections, a small exhibition space, and now a 3D video slide show of historic Steropticon photos. Add on the house tour for a small fee; it's well worth your time for lovers of New Orleans history and design. A welcome detour from the raunchiness of Bourbon Street.

“Don't miss this museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2012

A great small museum and be sure to take a tour of the house. The collection also offers fabulous research opportunities in another location close by.

“Amazing photographic history of New Orleans!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011 via mobile

Stopped in right before they were closing. The lady at the desk let me know They were closing soon to prepare for a concert, but welcomed me most graciously and recommended I NOT overlook the short photo presentation.
It was an amazing step into history. Starting in Late 18, early 1900s and moving forward, touching and amazing black&white photos of the people, shops, waterfront, even Mardi Gras, accompanied by jazz band music. If I'd have had time, I would have watched it again and again.
Artwork of local historical families was interesting and gave me an idea of who some of the people were whose names you see on street signs.

“For colonial history buffs, don't miss the Collection in the French Quarter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2011

Housed in 18-19th century homes, the Collection stages exhibits relating to the region's past evoking its history and its art. Spain's Archivo de las Indias just loaned 140 maps and documents on the colonial period relating to the colony of Louisiana, beautifully displayed in the galleries, with bilingual labels, booklets, and even magnifying glasses to zoom in on details up close. Lighting was adequate to good. The gift shop offers a good range of items for all pocketbooks. The Collection as it often does, offers scholarly presentations from time to time on the exhibits and related themes, so it's ideal to time a visit to coincide. There was also a related exhibit of art works from the Spanish colonial period in the Americas, making for a great duo of cultural touring under one roof.
