Owner description: Get wherever you want to go in New Orleans with the Regional Transit Authority (RTA). Our extensive network of buses and streetcars winds throughout every neighborhood of the Crescent City. From Uptown to Downtown, from Lakeview to the Lower Nine, from Mid-City across the Mississippi River and to the parish lines, the RTA goes there. As streetcars glide underneath grand live oaks and past stately mansions, they offer up relaxing views of the beauty, charm and history of New Orleans for little cost. When riders board these historic vehicles they are boarding a piece of movable New Orleans history. The RTA operates three streetcar lines: the famous, historic St. Charles line, the Canal Street line, and the Riverfront line. All lines either run along or intersect with Canal Street in the area between the French Quarter and the Central Business District (CBD) connecting Uptown/Garden District, Carrollton, Mid-City, City Park and the Marigny. The RTA is currently adding more Streetcar lines.

“Historic and practical!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

We rode the Canal Street Line and the Riverfront Line. Exact change required. The drivers were happy to assist any newbies in using the fare machines on-board the cars. We took the Canal Street line from the French Quarter to City Park and back. Be aware that the Canal Street line has two different destinations. If you want to go to City Park, make sure you board a car that is labeled "City Park / Museum". A real treat!

“Kick back and relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

We took the streetcar through the Garden District all the way to the end of the line and back again. It was a fun, cheap way to see this part of the city. We saw lots of trees that still had Mardis Gras beads hanging in them.

“Two for the price of one!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

First time on a street car for hubby, mother-in-law and two kids. Glass half empty = tracks were under construction in preparation for the 2013 Superbowl traffic. Glass half full = everybody got to ride on a city bus to get to St. Charles and hop on a street car. Was quite an experience for my sheltered family!

Riding a street car down St. Charles is a bucket list event for NOLA visitors. It's always intriguing, with lots of southern charm. During the holidays, ornate decorations add a special flair.

“One of my favorite activities in the city!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

This is a wonderful way to see some of the city and relax. Give your feet a little rest from all the walking. You can pick the street car up on canal and ride it all the way through the Garden district. Hop on and off to check out the sites, grab a drink or a snack and then get back on an continue your ride!

“Must do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

You must do it. It is the cheapest way to see the prettiest part of the city. You can also transfer and go all the way to city park. So for $2.50 you can have a round trip 25 mile tour of the city.
