“Beautiful area of town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

We took a walking tour through the garden district and really enjoyed it. It's a lovely area of town that includes great restaurants, beautiful homes, and the historic Lafayette cemetery.

“The Original Mansions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

The Garden District is a must see for anyone with the time visiting New Orleans. The best way to access this area is to take the 12 bus from the St. Charles Street and Common Street stop. The Washington Street cross street from St. Charles is the main street to access the Garden District.

I recommend doing a "free" walking tour. You can leave a tip afterward. They will take you along one of the streets and also through the Layfayette Cemetary No. 1. The tour shows a good amount of mansions and provides unique details regarding who lived in them from confederate generals to Sandra Bullock.

Just walking around the district is quite amazing. Be careful crossing streets and New Orleans drivers do not yield for pedestrians. Also there is a great coffee shop and book store to check out near Commanders Palace. I would highly recommend eating at Commanders Palace during lunch too.

“Beautiful houses, but poor transportation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

The neighbourhood is worth the visit with a lot of pretty houses to see and streets to wander. Magazine St has some good places to eat as well and two very good cremeries/gelaterias. Beware of public transport though: it took us more than a full hour to get us out of the Garden District, as buses are not very frequent and cabs are rare.

“Most beautiful area of NOLA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

The Garden District is a don't miss attraction in NOLA. Take a tour - highly recommend the tour company (Tour New Orleans) that leaves right from the Rink at Washington and Prytania. In the next 1.5 hours, you will learn alot about the history of New Orleans, tour a historic cemetary, and see some of the most beautiful homes in the City (as well as hear about their famous owners). Hint - both of the tourguides named Dave are outstanding. Once the tour is finished, continue to saunter around the Garden District, wonder over to St. Charles Street or shop and eat on Magazine Street. You will have a wonderful afternoon, guaranteed! Wear comfortable shoes.
