“A wonderful place to relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

My husband and I stayed three nights and both of us cannot remember a time that we were so rested and relaxed. The Inn has places to read, relax and rest both inside and outside. The sunsets are beautiful to watch sitting on the porch. There is a path around the pasture that is quiet and peaceful. We met family and spent time on "the capitol square" and walked by the lake and the UW Union. We were a 15 minute trip away. The rooms are well supplied with everything one needs for comfort and Pat or Bob will supply small items you forgot. The breakfasts are 5 star, Wisconsin themed and the conversation with other guests was very enjoyable. We look forward to returning soon. We were able to visit family and still have a space for ourselves.

This was my first time at the Speckled Hen. It was such a wonderful relaxing place to be after being on the road all day. After checking in and getting a tour from Bob I had to walk the beautiful grounds and visit the animals (llamas, sheep, chickens, cats and Happy the dog). Loved it all. So many places to sit and relax while taking in the scenery. Pictures don't do justice.

I stayed in the Rising Sun room. It was very comfortable. Large bay window where you can lounge and read or watch the sheep and llamas out in the pasture. I had my own bathrobe, comfy bed, flat screen TV (which I don't watch but I know is an important feature for some). I had my own bathroom directly across the hall from me. It was huge to my standards, very clean with walk in shower and a claw foot tub. I believe all the other rooms have bathrooms that are a part of the bedroom areas.

They have an area set up to make coffee, tea, and coco anytime of the day. Even wine to buy. A book full of recommended places to eat and things to do in the area. The breakfast was so wonderful. I wanted to lick my plate! They have different breakfast times so if you are not an early riser you can wait and eat at 10:00. The food was so good and most of it was fresh from their gardens and chickens.

Pat and Bob are fantastic people. Very friendly and accommodating. I just can't say enough about them and what a wonderful place they have created for travelers like me who like to stay away from the hotel scene.

We have just returned to our home in Charleston, SC after finishing our EIGTH visit to the Speckled Hen Inn. We have traveled quite a bit in Europe and in the states utilizing B & B's and we just keep going back to the Speckled Hen for many reasons. Our hosts have made us more than just welcome, they have made us there friends. The entire atmosphere of the Inn is that of intimate friendship and cozy welcome. The rooms are perfect in there appointments and comfort with all that one could expect from a really high end hotel/spa. Being greeted by our hosts with a glass of wine or champagne is pleasant after a lond day of driving and the fantastic breakfast that is served really fortifies one for the long days drive ahead. We have been regulars since 2007 and will keep returning as long as we are able to travel. We REALLY like this place and our hosts and I think everybody that stays there does too.

I am sad to say that our first B&B experience was here with Bob and Pat: why? Husband and I were super spoiled! I am sure that it will take a lot for another B&B to compare to this. It is true perfection.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room with the jacuzzi (can't remember the name) and man, oh man. Perfection.

The Speckled Hen Inn was the perfect retreat for us! We wanted a quiet, green setting and we got it courtesy of the well-manicured grounds and livestock on the property. What makes the inn unique is that although you can relax "in nature" it is still extremely close to downtown Madison. Best of both worlds! As foodies, we also appreciated the magnificent, imaginative 3 course breakfasts. The Inn itself is gorgeous, clean and well-maintained. Our guest room (we stayed in token creek) surpassed our expectations. Luxurious accommodations down to the last detail. We wrote down the name of those bathrobes! All in all, we highly recommend The Speckled Hen Inn. Great food and wonderful service in a perfect setting.

Nothing short of the best is the experience Pat, Bob and Happy will deliver at the Speckled Henn.

Well appointed rooms, spacious bathroom facilities, excellent breakfasts, and great conversations are had by all who stay at this lovely B&B.

Our second visit to the Speckled Hen Inn was as wonderful as the first. Escaping the hectic everyday life to relax and enjoy the quiet tranquility at the Speckled Hen is a true treat. From the moment you step out of your car and view the expansive pasture with sheep and lamas, to the warm welcome from Pat & Bob, to a fantastic night's sleep, and the wagging tail of Happy the awesome dog greating us as we venture into the dining room for breakfast the next morning you feel at home, welcome and relaxed. Breakfast is always a treat with Pat and Bob doing their magic in the kitchen. Delicious beyond words. We look forward to many more relaxing visits. You couldn't ask for anything more in quality relaxing B & B.
