“All the details of home and MORE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2011

The hosts were very gracious, great cooks and seemed to really enjoy making us feel like home. I only wish we had lengthened our stay and had planned more time to just hang out there!
Beautiful pastoral setting. Very comfortable surroundings, yet extremely convenient to Madison.
Highly recommended!

What a wonderful get away destination!  The Speckled Hen Inn B&B exceeded our expectations. The pictures on line don't begin to do it justice or demonstrate the warmth and hospitality provided by owners Bob and Pat.

From the moment we arrived, Pat made us feel right at home. We were shown around and learned about the history of the Inn.  The surroundings were beautiful too.  We enjoyed seeing the llamas and the sheep with the two babies!  It was picturesque  and to look out the window at such a lovely setting...made us forget we were right outside Madison!!  Felt like the European countryside. We stayed in two different rooms (one night each) because of prior bookings but we loved experiencing the variety. Both were equally charming and comfortable.

The breakfasts were amazing!  They use as much local and home grown/made products as they can, including eggs from their chickens, homemade caramel apple scones with apple butter, oatmeal pancakes made with raspberries/blueberries and a orange sauce for the top,  homemade sorbet made from grapes grown on the premises--we could go on and on but this stay was fantastic in every way!

We especially enjoyed the willingness of Pat and Bob to share their stories and to engage with the guests, making us feel like we were welcome--almost like old friends.

They offer a range of options to compliment the visit, including delicious cookies, various wines for purchase and pretzels for those late night snacks. The fireplaces, nice jetted tubs, luscious robes--we will definitely return here again and look forward to more stories and great hospitality.

The Speckled Hen Inn really personifies what the perfect B&B is all about.

We will rate this five stars across the board!!!

Loved being tucked away in the woods, with the llamas and chickens, and the apple, cherry, and maple trees. The innkeepers were warm and shared their experience with Madison and the surrounding environment which really helped us explore the area. And OH those breakfasts!

Everything was perfect! The hosts, the breakfasts, the bed, the ambiance... we wanted for nothing the entire weekend. I really enjoyed playing piano in the guest gathering room, being able to grab games and cards for a night in, and the handiness of the refrigerator/kitchenette available to use at all times. I wish we could have stayed an entire week.

We stayed in the Hedy suite, the room is spacious, clean and the bed comfortable. The tub was delightful but the room needed more ventilation for the humidity from the tub and the bathroom. The well pump and furnace room were located below the room. Every time the well pump went off it shook the floor and the airconditioning woke us up in the middle of the night with a piercing high pitch squeal. You could also hear the traffic sounds from the freeway. If you are a light sleeper this may not be the place for you. The breakfast was excellent.

We are very sorry that our guest experienced a problem during his stay. It was a humid fall day with daytime temperatures near 80. At night the temperature fell to around 45 degrees. We turned on the air conditioner in the afternoon to make the Inn more comfortable and when the temperature dropped at night, the coil in the furnace iced up and caused the high pitched squeal.
The next morning the guest told us that he had entered the furnace room and turned off the furnace. While that solved the coil issue, it stopped all air circulation throughout the Inn since the fan is designed to run 27/7 to change the air in the rooms and keep temperature and humidity levels constant.
We did consult with our furnace service company and they confirmed that the unit will not operate properly with wide temperature swings accompanied by high humidity. Although this has never happened before and may never happen again, we will make sure that we switch off the air conditioner at sunset to prevent freeze up, but will leave the fan running as is normally the case. This should assure a quieter night for our guests should we ever again experience such peculiar weather.

We spent 2 nights in 2 different room due to them being busy and had a wonderful time. The bathrooms were really nice and the rooms were pretty big unlike other b&b's. The sheep and llamas were cool and Happy the dog is everyone's friend. Bob and Pat made the weekend.
