“Fascinating House, Great Location, Pleasant Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Booked as a quick anniversary getaway. Very interesting property with a fantastic location in Madison. Easy walk to restaurants, lakes, capitol square. Room was clean and well appointed. Was wary of the "heavy" Victorian decor but it all fit together and each room of the house was interesting and inviting. Peggy and Dave are great hosts and genuinely interested in making your stay pleasant.

We booked this reservation while on our way to Madison and that was our only interaction with Dave but he was very nice and patient when I had to call multiple times because of poor cell reception.

Upon arrival Peggy had us sit down and her neighbor was over so we had time to get situated and settle in before we checked in. We never felt rushed and it was a pleasant way to arrive after a long day of driving. Peggy showed us around the house - a beautiful structure maintained and refurbished without losing any noticable aspect of the original charm. Peggy told us to come down after we settled into the room for a complimentary glass of wine or a beer and encouraged us to take our drinks out with us to watch the amazing sunset from the dock situated down a small trail in their backyard. Beautiful view.

She also gave wonderful food suggestions, we ended up going to Sardine and highly recommend! About a 15 min walk away and an easy cab ride as well. When we returned home after dinner there were chocolates in a bowl by the door, a wonderful welcome home treat we were not expecting! The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with a large shower, medium sized tv, desk, closet, desk, and a few nice chairs. The bed was very cozy and warm, and fit two people very well. Though a bit of a walk from the main part of downtown, its very easy to get to by cab and if you don't mind the walk and the weather is nice its not bad. There are also bikes to rent along the park neighboring the inn.

In the morning we had a fantastic breakfast of egg frittata with spinach and gruyere, rosemary roasted potatoes, bacon, yoghurt, fresh fruit, granola, pastries, coffee, tea, and orange juice. Following breakfast we ended up staying and chatting with Peggy for over an hour and it really felt like we'd been visiting a good friend - we were sad to go and would return to madison primarily to revisit the Livingston Inn!

Weve stayed in various B&Bs throughout the country and this has been by far the best yet. The little touches really make all the difference. Thank you Peggy and family for hosting us so wonderfully in your beautiful home!

Peggy and Dave are wonderful thoughtful hosts who make you feel as though you are cherished family members on a visit. Honestly, they cannot do enuf for you including having fresh baked goodies, water bottles, rocha treats for your every return. The rooms are spacious, and spotless and beautifully decorated. I like how Peg directs you to the couch in the formal parlor and sits down with you there to check you in. My favorite experience was meeting little Ella who greeted me at every arrival like her favorite long lost friend. She is such a sweet little girl, I will miss her.

Room Tip: Our room, Lake Mendota, has a partial lake view. Staircase is steep, however.

We recently held our wedding ceremony/dinner at The Livingston Inn and received a ton of compliments from our family that it was such a unique location. Dave and Peggy were amazing to work with and made our night unforgettable. I would highly recommend anyone consider having an event here. The rooms are cozy and authentic and the hospitality you will receive is stellar. Loved every part of our wedding night at The Livingston Inn!

My wife and I spent a get-away weekend at Livingston Inn recently. We were so taken by the hospitality shown us by Peggy and Dave. The atmosphere was delightful and the conversation was so interesting. The Happy Hour with beer or wine was unexpected but a great extra. The full breakfasts were delicious. Peggy’s advice on dining was right on. We made a wonderful choice in coming to Livingston and will definitely come again. Livingston gets our vote.

My boyfriend and I spent two nights at the Livingston Inn to celebrate our birthdays and simply to get out of Chicago for a few days. Our expectations for rest and relaxation could not have been met more thoroughly by staying at the Livingston. The house is beautiful, both inside and outside, and owners Peggy and Dave have truly put a lifetime of love and consideration into making this house THE destination for Madison B&Bs. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the morning breakfasts were healthy and delicious, and the conversation was lively and engaging. It felt like being at home, but with all the comforts of vacation. The Livingston's proximity to downtown Madison made it ideal for wandering and exploring, and Peggy's suggestions for entertainment and dining could not have been more spot on. All in all, we were thoroughly satisfied with our stay at the Livingston, giving it our highest recommendation. We will definitely be going back. The Livingston Inn, along with owners Peggy and Dave, are Madison treasures!

A perfect night for our anniversary, the fireplace in the Willow Room really made it feel great. Comfortable bed, enough space in the room, great shower, super breakfast, very healthy. We loved our stay and highly recommend it!!
