“atmosphere to spare”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Family had brunch here on a recent Sunday morning...it's just an awesome place to get going on a weekend morning. Big windows look out on the capital, lots of people in good moods all around you, great coffee and an amazing selection of breakfast and lunch foods, including eggs benedict, waffles, local cheeses, meats, and even walleye! Takes a while to get seated, but it's worth it.

“This place is TOTALLY overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

Spent and hour waiting to get a table at the old fashioned, for what!?!??!?! Poor service and tasteless food. I cannot believe people make SUCH a big deal about this place. Not worth the wait.

“Nice place to visit again, and again...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Local favorite apparently since across from the Capital. Nice beer selection. Nice variety of food selections with daily specials. Good enough to hit it twice in a two-week stay in Madison. On the to-do list when I return in early November 2012.

“Over-hyped!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

Not that the food is bad, mind you, but the food is not as flat out fabulous as some would have you believe. There are nicely executed traditional meals, from burgers and wurst to local perch and walleye. (There are fried curds too, but if you want a much higher ratio of curd to breading and a much creamier curd, head down the block to Graze.) The drinks menu is probably most impressive, although even then the Old Fashioned I ordered was merely a good drink, not the stuff of legends. Go for the lively pub atmosphere and a reliably good dinner, but elsewhere for a special night or better imagined fare.

“Just so-so for being OVERPRICED!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Came here to try something new. As a local, I was not impressed at all. Burgers were undercooked (even the medium), had to send them back. Not friendly service, not offered a discount or coupon or drink or anything because of burgers, not even offered extra dipping sauces for appetizers and fries. You only get 1 tablespoon of the homemade sauce (just ONE) of your choice; extra is 50 cents. Overpriced, not great food. The Old Fashioned has a gamey taste. And there were tons of flies (they didn't taste good either). Go somewhere else.
