“Clean cheap (slightly creepy) place to stay for a night or 2”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2012 via mobile

So I had to book a Room at the last minute and I didnt want to spend an arm and a leg so I booked this one. Its cheap, clean. Free breakfast and wifi for $60. Its a VERY old hotel/motel slighty creepy but it was at least clean. Staff was friendly and bed and pillows were comfty. This is def not a luxury hotel but it had everything I needed. The rooms had a fridge, microwave, tv w cable and working a/c w a clean bathroom w free wifi and free continental breakfast. If I was in a tight budget and needed a room I would def stay here again but if you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you.

We were in Madison overnight for a wedding so we just needed a place to sleep and no frills was fine. Actually, the Road Star more than met that. The staff we met were all friendly and helpful, the heat pump unit worked fine and kept the temperature fairly constant, the bed was very comfortable and the room had a very nice recliner with a light appropriate for reading! There was also a ceiling fan, fridge, microwave and large TV. The property is older - the bathroom door took brute force to close and open it, the room door was a little loose so made noise as other doors in the hallway opened and closed - that was dealt with by stuffing a brochure in the opening to tighten it up. Two lightbulbs were burned out but were cheerfully replaced as soon as I let them know. The internet connection was free, easy and fast. The room had a tub as well as a very nice shower - that's getting to be unusual these days.

Breakfast was about average - fresh fruit (bananas) was a nice addition to the cereal and pastries. And all this for $50? It's right off the Beltline so very convenient, but in an industrial park area. If you are looking for hot tubs, pools, exercise rooms, business centers and landscaping, then go elsewhere. But if you just want a clean room for the night, this is a bargain.

I didn't expect a lot for the price so I wasn't too suprised by the size of the room. I was surprised there wasn't a clock though. There was a small fridge and microwave, however. The room was clean but the sheets were very threadbare. The breakfast was adequate - nothing fancy but then again I didn't expect much.

All in all, the room was fine for our purposes. We were there to take a tour of the University of WI campus and it was a short and easy drive to get there from the hotel. And the price was definitely right.

One more thing - the staff is very nice and accommodating. We didn't notice the breakfast ended at 8:30 and we got down there at 8:45. The guy behind the desk pulled out some doughnuts and muffins for us.

after looking into this hotel online i was a bit worried to stay there, but nothing was availible in my price range so i reluctantly stayed. i was suprised to learn that the management had changed in the past few years and upkeep was the new ones main goal. the room was clean, bed was confy,, i liked the wi-fi speed and the free bagels/muffins/ect for breakfast was good. i would def stay there again! price was very resonable and front desk was friendly and helpfull

Had a great experience here. The staff was polite and acomodating, the room was clean and well kept- found the free internet very useful. I had no disturbances or complaints. Great rates as well. Enjoyed my stay.

I needed a night's rest when passing through Madison and saw this conveniently situated motel across the beltline from a large shopping mall and from Odana Road with its many and varied restaurants, so thought I'd give it a try, expecting nothing special.

Front desk staff was friendly and professional, and the lobby and hallways leading to my room were a cut above the average modern chain roadside motel. I later learned that the owner, Steve Welch, has just a few motels and has done much of the work in modernizing and upgrading them with his own traveling crew.

My room was larger than average and well appointed. I need work space and electrical accessibility, and these were fine. A nice new television was easy on the eyes, and internet access was more than adequate.

My room had a microwave and refrigerator. I didn't have to use them, but I especially like a fridge in a motel room. The continental breakfast was fine on my way out in the morning.

Everything was clean. I'd stop again if staying in Madison.
