“Enjoyable experience enhanced by the service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We tried Lombardino's on a Saturday night during a recent trip to Madison. While parking took a bit of time, our reserved table was ready at the appointed hour. Our group included two individuals that weren't as hungry as I was, resulting in only one appetizer--the mussels with rock shrimp. This was a beautiful dish of PEI mussels and small rock shrimp, with garlic, shallots, spinach, and bacon in an anise-flavored cream sauce. Main selections in our group included the roasted beet salad and the linguine with clams and rock shrimp--both of which were tasty. When ordering, I was undecided betwen the pappardelle with rabbit ragu and the strozapretti with mushrooms and parsnips. Our waitress, Jenn, suggested that I didn't have to make the difficult call and that she could arrange for a half-order of each. It was nicely presented on a large plate and I thoroughly enjoyed both. We all commented on her service that night--both friendly and attentive. Good food, interesting menu. I would definitely recommend it.

“Nice Italian Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

This restaurant has proved it is a quality place with good food and service through the years. The menu can be a little strange from time to time but it adds to the adventure here. My big complaint is that they allow people to eat at the bar. On our last two visits there the majority of the bar is taken up with people eating full dinners. If you and your friends want a drink you end up standing behind the diners and dodging the waiters with food orders going by. I always though the bar drinks were what kept a restaurant in the money but I guess not. This was on a busy Friday night not a slow Tuesday and it really annoys me. This is my wife's favorite place for eggplant something or other so we go there but it is a little pricey and I prefer more relaxed places to dine.

“Overpriced and disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Lombardino's is always busy so most people must be happy here. The authentic decor is great although the lighting is extremely dim. We were very disappointed in the Acorn Squash and Risotto with shrimp. The majority of the plate was a very heavy, thick and floury gravy. The rice was cooked to mush, so was kernels of it were not even detectable. The shrimp were very small and the serving of squash was 3 very small strips of squash. The green beans accompanying it were good. On a happier note the date and prosciutto appetizer was excellent. In addition the price was very high for the value received. Service is good.

Been a frequent on and off place to dine. Just gets better and enjoy the atmosphere preserved from former owners. Just a nice dining experience every time!

“Excellent Meal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

My wife and I ate here about two or three years ago and decided to try it again. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the Cerified Hereford filet was awesome! For dessert we had gelato, her pistachio was wonderful and my salted caramel was great. This place is a definate stop if you are in Madison. It is right across the street from the Best Western, which makes it very convenient.
