“Taking the kids to explore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

While this museum is small, it has a lot for young kids to see. My girls (3 & 7) really enjoyed seeing the different dinosaur bones, rocks, and information about Wisconsin.

“Great collection”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

Like others have said, it's a great little free museum. Currently (July, 2012), there is a lot of street construction nearby, so take that into account. We ended up at the Grainger parking garage - be warned, it is $1.50 per hour at the meters. Fortunately, there is a change machine in the building!

The website has a nice booklet for a self-guided tour to print, which I forgot to do ahead of time, but they do have one copy at the front desk. I ended up giving it to another family, since their sons were more into the details than my kids.

We had just gone to Cave of the Mounds the day before, so my daughter was thrilled to be able to touch the replica cave walls (unlike in the real one).

It has a lot of displays in a rather small space. If you walk quickly, you will miss things. We went back and forth a few times, and kept seeing displays we had missed before. The mineral and crystal displays were quite impressive!

“Worth the trip... if you can find parking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

Museum is free - first plus. Parking around the place is terrible. Nice collection of artifacts, fossils and minerals.

“hidden gem”

Wonderful little museum. Always a hit with kids. Especially like that there are actual scientist available to answer questions. Can bring a speciman to show the staff and ask questions.
