I stayed one night here for a conference. The conference was at the hotel, and was well organized. I noticed there was a wedding here at the same time, so it seems as if they have ample facilities for a variety of types of events.
I took the complimentary hotel shuttle from the airport-- the clear directions for calling the shuttle were printed on my reservation sheet (use the complimentary phone at the hotel display board near the baggage claim). The shuttle came quickly and the courteous driver told me a bit about Madison as he drove, once he found out I had never been there before.
Checking in was OK. I was hoping for an early checkin, which was not available. Fine, I gave them my cell number and went to have coffee in the restaurant. After an hour I still hadn't heard from them, so I went back up to the desk. The woman told me that my room wasn't ready still, but they could offer me early check-in in another room similar to what I booked (club level king). I found it a bit odd that they wouldn't have already just assigned me the first available room in my class, but still got an early check-in, so there's nothing to complain about here.
Once I got to the room I was pleased, though not overly impressed. It was a tasteful, large, clean hotel room. Very good. A bit generic, but very good.
The bed was comfortable, the shower had good pressure, and the in room amenities were nice. I had to search for a little while for the promised bathrobes (in the room closet, not on the bathroom hooks) and was a bit disappointed that there were no slippers.
I was too tired to go to the club happy hour that night, but went to breakfast in the club room the next day. The food was good-- eggs, yummy cinnamon rolls, an array of baked goods, cereals, etc. All looked good. The breakfast room was over-full though, with very little sitting room available, and there were dirty dishes everywhere (even piled on the couch) that previous diners had left and the staff had not yet cleared away. I did not see them clearing away dishes at all while I was there, instead they were rushing to refill empty food tray and find more plates (which is why I ate my bagel in a bowl). The club room seemed to need more room and staff.
The hotel pool was very nice. I was able to swim laps, found the whirlpool relaxing, and enjoyed the saunas. The signs said something about spas and massages, but I didn't see where to go for that unfortunately.
Checkout was quick and smooth. I took the complimentary shuttle back to the airport with no problems.
Overall I liked the hotel. I wouldn't say I loved it, but I had a pleasant time there. I think I was expecting too much from them-- I expected more character since it is an independent hotel, but it felt more like a general nice chain hotel to me, just a bit smaller. Still, they did their job well.
Ask for a lake view, it was really beautiful in the morning and evening.
