Everything was lovely from the courteous valet, desk check-in, room service and lounge staff to the heavenly beds. Would certainly stay again! The view was great. Rooms were spacious and clean. Room service with French press coffee and delightful pastries. Enjoyed very much!

The Edgewater has everything going for it: great rooms, great service, great location close to the capitol and to the university, great views on Lake Mendota. We were very well treated and if you can get a waterfront room they are worth it. The rooms are posh and very very quiet. The valet was super-fast. And the photos and references to the history of the hotel are really interesting. Even Aldo Leopold! This is a terrific stay...highly recommend.

Looked like a lovely waterfront property but one difficulty after the other. Rooms were large and well-appointed, but when I went to shower at 11 pm, the shower was nonfunctional. No water--a fully inoperable shower. We called down and it took a long time to have someone appear to change our room. We packed, dressed, and were taken down to the low-ceilinged basement room which the employee was unable to open. Another delay and more waiting while the night manager came down and opened with the master key. At 8 am a snow plow went repeatedly past our window to clear ice. Noisy and distracting. My husband mentioned that we ought to be offered some concession, but we were not. In our new room my husband filled the sink to shave and when he pulled the sink stopper (metal device), it came off in his hand so we were unable to drain the sink. Clearly cheap finishes. Things simply did not work. No coffee makers in the room and no complementary coffee. We travel a great deal and this seemed a particularly poorly run and maintained hotel for its price point. Would never stay there again. Disappointing.

Wow. We were picked up at the airport in a black Escalade. The driver pointed out places of interest at night. We were greated by doormen and the front desk staff when we entered. I felt so spoiled with their graciousness. The property just went through a huge overhaul and it shows. My room had a view of Lake Mendota even from the bathroom. The bathroom had a floor to ceiling heater and a walk in shower. The bed was super comfortable. I usually sleep lightly when I know I am going to get an early wake up call. Not here. The phone woke me out of a deep sleep. Simply perfect. Thank you.

The recent renovation here has given visitors to Madison an excellent location in the downtown area in which to stay. There are several amenities on site such as an ice skating rink near the lake as well as a spa.

Our stay at The Edgewater this weekend was perfect! From the moment we pulled up till we were pulling out! This updated hotel is beautiful and has stunning views of Madison. Growing up in the area, I feel this is more a Chicago style hotel- which is nothing but a compliment!
The bar area is very classy yet we were able to have many laughs with our friends while watching the game. TIP : ORDER THE CHEESE CURDS! Seriously... they are amazing and there are so many. Worth every penny!
The rooms are wonderful. From the large shower to the spectacular views... it can't be beat! Our room was supposed to be on the 11th floor but when we tired to check in, it wasn't ready. Without hesitation, the front desk said they could offer us something that was open now (we didn't even need to ask!). This was perfect. When we found out we were on the 4th floor we were not expecting a great view. That changed the moment we opened our room door and could see out the patio door. The view of the lake was breath taking, even froze over!
We can't wait to stay at The Edgewater again and hope to take advantage of the additional restaurants and relaxation pool.

The rooms are extremely spacious and well designed to accommodate a family. The view on both the city side and water side of the hotel are great. On the city side you can see the state capitol and on the water side the view of the lake is gorgeous.

The restaurant is very good with a great wood fired oven that offers amazing pizza options.

Room Tip: Lake view is the best but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Edgewater is the proud revival of an historic hotel, right on the shores of Lake Mendota, adjacent to the University of Wisconsin and steps from the state Capitol, in the heart of downtown Madison. The restored property maintains the classic facade of its predecessor, now called The Langdon Building, and a new tower, The Wisconsin Building, all with completely new interiors, several restaurants, a magnificent spa, ballrooms, and a large plaza that connects both hotel guests and the public with the beautiful waters of the lake. The hotel has 202 guest rooms, the majority offering gorgeous lake views, including presidential suites and studios with kitchenettes. The Edgewater Spa provides fitness and personal training overlooking Lake Mendota, as well as full service, customized hair, makeup, nail services and relaxing massage. Restaurant options range from The Statehouse for distinctive dining, to The Boathouse, a bar and restaurant in the great Wisconsin tradition of casual waterfront spots, The Icehouse for very casual dining, and The Cafe, for coffee and lighter fare throughout the day. Meeting and banquet facilities range from The Grand Ballroom and Mendota Ballroom, both in the Wisconsin Building, to The Red Crown Club on top of the Langdon Building, offering versatility and spectacular views of Lake Mendota. The Plaza lies at the heart of The Edgewater between The Langdon Building and the Wisconsin Building, almost an acre, open to the public with regularly scheduled outdoor events, concerts and celebrations, converting in winter to a skating rink. ... more   less
