“Excited to see the remodel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

Stayed here a few weeks ago for a conference. Food was awesome for the confernence, room service and in the restaurant. I felt like I had stepped back in time. Waiters/Waitresses in tuxedo's, bar tender's "muddling" Old Fashioned's and "shaking"martini's. Decor is dated, but not worn....hope that make sense. Hotel is incredibly clean and the staff, even though they knew closing in a few months for a long term remodel, incredibly helpful and friendly. YOU WON'T GET A BETTER VIEW IN MADISON. If you love Madison, a good old stiff drink and want to be within walking distance of the Capitol, the college and State Street and want a reasonably priced room, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for Lakefront

“Stay Away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

This could possibly have been the worst hotel I have ever stayed at... I'll start with the positives - it is on the water and has a lovely view of the lake. There is literallhy nothing else to say in its defense. The hotel is badly outdated and in need of renovation. Despite that fact, their room rate is expensive, especially in comparison to the other hotels in the area. Windows rattled all night long from the wind , room too cold on night #1 and then far too hot on night #2, without any means to monitor the thermastat. Telvesion was from circa 1979. Brown water came out of the faucets. Few towels, small towels, Motel 6 type soap and shampoo... I coud go on, but you must have the point by now. Stay away!

“Hasn't changed in 30 years”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Just stayed for parents weekend as my oldest is now a badger as well. I told my wife we have to stay at edgewater as best place on campus. Well it's still got a fabulous view and great location but I don't think they have changed the furniture since I was a student in the early 80s. Musty moldy odors as well. Poor Internet service. It needs to be gutted and start over. The food was ok though probably because we enjoyed the view so much.

Room Tip: Go god lake view rooms. Pray it's not windy though as windows rattle and leak air.

“some things are best left to the memory”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

the edgewater hotel was a place to be and a place to be. i was recruited to play football there years ago and have returned through the years. on my last visit, there was no one there. the night before and after the game was like a ghost town.

i am told a "local" blocked a recent sale attempt but another is succeding.....i do not know the reason for blocking but it has to be one of madison's premier properties and one of madison's biggest blemish.

there is not much good to say except: look out the window and remember the way it was and imagine the way it could be...

i say this all with a heavy heart

Room Tip: get a room with the best view possible as this is the best part of the hotel. lobby for a new hotel

“Ick!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Everything is old and musty and there were several insects. (There were no bedbugs, just to be clear.) Clearly they are facing financial strains. They provide cheap toiletries, the towels are rough, and as others have said, it's very old. It's a lovely setting and someone needs to buy it and fix it up! Finally, there is spotty Wi-Fi when it hooks up at all.
