Upon our Saturday arrival we found the motel to be just about vacant, with only a few vehicles in the parking lot. So of course my request for a 45 minutes early check-in was met with an immediate, "Your room is not ready." I am generally not one to push the clock at check-in, but a bit more courtesy towards the customer might have been nice in this situation.
In terms of size, the room was quite adequate. But the overall room condition was only marginal. Carpet which needed to be replaced, tiles off the wall (cove base) in the bathroom, etc. We found trash fom the last guest, meaning that the room cleaning could use some improvement. It was quiet at night, in part because the occupancy load was light.
Pool was very nice and large enough for lap swimming. Which I was fortunate to complete before two young and totally undisciplined boys took to the pool. And, so near as I could tell, never left the place. With only the two of them, noise in the pool/atrium area was quite loud. I was particularly glad that we had an outside room. Over hearing comments in the breakfast room the following morning, also verified the outside location.
Breakfast was the typical mostly-carbs Comfort Inn variety. Nothing fancy, but fine. Although the large room layout was particularly good. I did apperciate that they offered hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit.
Upon check-out, the young man at the desk was many time more courteous than the young lady who had been there at check-in; she had treated my apperance mostly as a nuisance.
Maybe it is the location, although Cortez is neither a ski destination nor a major tourist attraction, but the room rate was ~15% too high. In my opinion.
