We left Mesa Verde late in the day, decided to spend the night in Cortez. By 6:00, the Best Western and Holiday Inn were sold out, the Comfort Inn had one room left so we took it. We were assigned a corner room on the third floor, with a beautiful view of the North Mesa.

The kids enjoyed the pool, and make your own waffles at breakfast time.

We enjoyed a sunset dinner on the deck at Koko’s (across the parking lot at the Cortez Conference Center), the kids had fun playing on the lawn in front of their deck.

  • Liked — View of the North Mesa.
  • Disliked — Towels could be thicker.

We left a terrible hotel in Durango (Budget Inn, don't go there) for this hotel, and loved it. Clean, clean, clean, nice view (ask for a Mesa View room on the back side), nice indoor pool, good breakfast. The pool and hot tub is in the center atrium or this 3 story hotel, not in a small foggy room like some, so it seemed really spacious and open. The breakfast room is huge and many breakfast choices (waffles, biscuits, etc.) plus there is a large outside deck with a mesa view. It was quiet and clean and the room was good sized. Seemed relatively new. The front desk people were very professional and friendly. We will definitely come back to this hotel if we visit this area again (Mesa Verde, Cortez/Durango area).

This hotel was great. We originally had reservations at the Mesa Verde Inn but saw the hotel and drove away quickly! It was awful looking anyway, we drove to the Comfort Inn and was immediately impressed by the helpfullness of the front desk staff. They gave us a great rate and a room on the third floor outside. The room was big and clean, the only thing I would suggest is new carpeting. The breakfast was great! This hotel is good if your going to Mesa Verde. Our son loved the indoor pool and my husband enjoyed the hot tub.

We had a family emergency the day we got into Cortez and the people at the Comfort Inn were so helpful. We didn't end up staying the night, but we want everyone to know that there are good people working there!

Upon our Saturday arrival we found the motel to be just about vacant, with only a few vehicles in the parking lot. So of course my request for a 45 minutes early check-in was met with an immediate, "Your room is not ready." I am generally not one to push the clock at check-in, but a bit more courtesy towards the customer might have been nice in this situation.

In terms of size, the room was quite adequate. But the overall room condition was only marginal. Carpet which needed to be replaced, tiles off the wall (cove base) in the bathroom, etc. We found trash fom the last guest, meaning that the room cleaning could use some improvement. It was quiet at night, in part because the occupancy load was light.

Pool was very nice and large enough for lap swimming. Which I was fortunate to complete before two young and totally undisciplined boys took to the pool. And, so near as I could tell, never left the place. With only the two of them, noise in the pool/atrium area was quite loud. I was particularly glad that we had an outside room. Over hearing comments in the breakfast room the following morning, also verified the outside location.

Breakfast was the typical mostly-carbs Comfort Inn variety. Nothing fancy, but fine. Although the large room layout was particularly good. I did apperciate that they offered hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit.

Upon check-out, the young man at the desk was many time more courteous than the young lady who had been there at check-in; she had treated my apperance mostly as a nuisance.

Maybe it is the location, although Cortez is neither a ski destination nor a major tourist attraction, but the room rate was ~15% too high. In my opinion.
