We arrived in Cortez late, around 10pm, after a full day of hiking in the Canyonlands Needles. We wanted to get an early start to Mesa Verde the next day, so we just needed something cheap, but clean and offered a good night's rest. The Tomahawk Lodge was great. We went to the lobby and the lady (I think she's from Poland) was very friendly--we even heard all about how she and her husband had tamed a wild cat (which was sitting by the door and greeted us on the way in--very cute). We were given room #2, which was near the main office. Everything was very clean, including the bathroom. We had some good hot showers, plenty of hot water. She helped us find a place to eat dinner, since surprisingly, everything in that town closes at 10pm except the Denny's. In the morning, we had an early start, but did notice quite a bit a road noise since a lot of big trucks drive by right outside. It didn't really bother us during the night, though, so if you're planning on sleeping in, you might want a room further back. For us, it was fine. For a no frills place (not even an alarm clock--we used our cell phone alarm to wake us up) this place worked great. There was some hot water/coffee available to us in the morning in the main office, which was nice. There was a pool, but it was empty. It really didn't matter to us as we wouldn't have used it anyway. We're glad we didn't pay 3 times at much at one of the more expensive places in town. Definitely would stay here again.
