“What a time we had.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2011 via mobile

This is a "Beautiful" hotel with lots of history. Take the time to wander around and look at the architecture and design of the interior. It is just as magnificent as the exterior.

The room was not the biggest - it is about the typical average size. Our room had a very comfortable king size bed with a pillow top.

Purchased the Capone Package ($395.00) - included two nights stay, breakfast buffet for two each morning, mineral water spa treatment per person, a 20 minute massage per person, and two free tickets to the Gangster Museum.

Increased the message time to an hour and the message type to a deep tissue message in a couples room. Paid about $150 extra over the package price for the upgrades.

Two tier exterior pool and whirlpool. Upper pool is 6 foot deep and lower pool is only 3 foot deep. Whirlpool was a nice size and could easily hold 12 people.

This place was horrible!! The salon was aweful--they gave me a terrible hair cut/style. I asked for about 3 inches cut off and they cut off at least 10 inches. I was upset and complained to the manager who said they could do nothing and expected the full bill paid. The spa staff could not find our reservation which had been booked months in advance. As they were overbooked, we were unable to be seen for our booked time and ended up having to come back the following morning for a different massage than what we had booked. We originally booked a full-body massage for each of us, and even though we did not get that, they charged us for the full-body massages and we had to argue to get the charges reversed from our card. The New Years Eve party was boring and was mostly (95%) elderly guests. The food was terrible and the Vegetarian meals were all late. We had to ask 3 times to get served, even though the meat dishes had already been out for 20 mins. One day we asked directions to the Tower on top of the nearby mountain, the staff happily gave us the directions, only for us to get all the way to the tower to find out that the thing had been closed for weeks for remodeling. The staff should have been aware of this before directing tourists to it. The hotel was dated and clearly hasn't been remodeled in decades. The linens were stained, the showers were moldy, the towels were faded and had holes in them, etc. The staff were unhelpful and the services offered were dated and WAY overpriced for what we got. The pool/hot tub was closed the whole time we were there--a week. Overall, a HUGELY disapointing New Years/vacation and a horrible experience. We will DEF never go back!! This place is GREALY overpriced for what you get. Hot Springs in general is pricey, but there are better places to stay for the price.Book elsewhere!!!

Room Tip: I would never stay here again.

We went to Hot Springs for a wedding and everyone stayed at the Arlington. Staff was unhelpful and unprofessional, and while I love historic buildings this one left much to be desired. On the weekend evenings, the lobby was like a nightclub and just getting through to the elevators was very difficult. Noise traveled down the hallways , and our room happened to be on one of the hallways that led to the pool, so there was constant rowdy noise in our room. We paid a $30 "nonrefundable deposit" (i.e. a fee) for our dog to stay with us, and because of all the noise he was riled up and we got a complaint about his barking, so he ended up staying in the car most of the weekend which is not at all what we had intended.

The bottom line - when I pay $100+ for a hotel room, I expect better than a dingy, noisy, crowded old building with unhelpful staff.

I am truly disappointed that your stay did not go as planned. We are, as you experienced, a very busy hotel on weekends with guest in the hotel, lounge and pool area off the seventh floor mountainside wing. The lobby is filled with guests enjoying dancing and music to the sound of Willie Davis and Company. We are a pet friendly hotel that certainly turned to an unfriendly staff that had to ask the dog to be quiet. It was never our intent to force him to the car.
If you are looking for a hotel with activity, excitement and people watching, we are the place to be.

We go to Hot Springs several times a year. I love the Arlington and would not consider staying anywhere else. Everything may not be new and perfect but it is clean and everyone is so nice. The front porch is great to hang out with friends and family, always good to just sit and relax and watch the cars go by while while having a Long Island Ice Tea. The history of the Arlington is second to none and it always takes you back in time to the Al Capone days. The Arlington was his favorite place to stay. If you do not stay at the Arlington you are missing so much. I would reccommend it for everyone.

OK, I am guessing that the people on TripAdvisor who gave this hotel poor reviews have never been to old hotels in truly old cities (other than American Chain Hotels). This hotel was on about the same level as some of the four star hotels we stayed in during our trip to Ireland (sans the wonderful breakfasts, unfortunately--the Europeans know how to do that right!!). The hotel IS old and that certainly shows. But, our room, hallway, common areas, etc. were CLEAN. The Arlington could use some true renovation (looks like most of the updating has been to paint over the flaws) but our room was fine, clean and LARGE compared to New York hotel rooms (which are also 3 x the cost). The bath fixtures were old--again, old, not dirty--there's a difference! I am so glad I DIDN'T listen to TripAdvisor's reviews and took a chance on this old gal. The bath-house experience is not to be missed. SO relaxing!! The band in the lobby on Fri. and Sat. nights and the dancers were a blast to listen to and watch. The staff have, for the most part, been there a while and were very friendly and knowledgable. The hotel stays booked on the weekends; that should tell you something.

Room Tip: Ask for PARK VIEW, get a KING room; 525 was great!

we stayed in a king parlor suite - the bedroom and living room were good - but the
bathroom was old and worn - the hotel staff were friendly - the dining room was almost
empty except for the seafood buffet on friday and the sunday brunch - we never ate at the hotel - for breakfast go to the pancake shop across the street -
we never had a problem parking in their garage a block away - during the height of
the season parking could be a problem -
the location is good with a lot of restuarants and shops within a few blocks -
be sure to take the cruise on lake hamilton and go to the top of the tower in

Their policy is to bill over the actual amount you see on the check-out statement. In our experience over TWICE the amount. This policy wasn't explained or presented at check-in, so be aware and have a load of funds if using a debit card. Elegant and exceptional otherwise. They claim they will credit back, expect a week after they have received funds and will take 3 to 5 days for it to show up.

Room Tip: Views are best towards the front.
