“a good place to get sick”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

we arrived in the hotel and arranged for a very good double room at 20$ including breakfast. the room was clean, equipped with AC and fun with a view to the sea. just across the hotel there are many fish restaurant. One of us was sick during the hotel stay and staff was able to provide drugs. The only neo is that they speaks a poor english therefore is not easy to get information. About breakfast, forget anything which is not from Vietnam like bread with butter and jam but be ready for eggs and noodles. It is a 2 stars hotel but could be even a 3 stars.

Room Tip: ask for the ones at sea side. You will spend 2$ more than the others

Sunflowers is a very nice hotel to stay at, we had a beach front room over looking the ocean on the 8th & the views where spectacular especially at night. The staff where friendly & polite although they did forget clean towels one day & I'm sure they didn't believe us because they came in the room looking for them before they gave them to us all the time I'm standing in the bathroom dripping wet haha. The breakfast wasn't any thing to spectacular but for $18 a night it was included. We found the hotel a bit far away from most restuarants & had to get taxis to & from but average price was around $2 each way. To be honest I wouldn't visit Quy Nhon again as really there is nothing to do there not even any day tours that we could find but it is a quiet stop over in a very Vietnamese town.

We stayed for 2 nights. Staff was very helpful. Had an sea view on the top floor which was great for pictures of the surrounding area and to get the lay of the land. Breakfast was good. 1 block off the beach and walking distance to restaurants. Clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Stay on the top floor sea view if you can or any other floor with a view.

We spent 1 week in Sunflowers hotel before TET holidays and we went back again after a great experience the first time. We stayed there for a month due to work and I have nothing but good words for this hotel. The reception staff is very friendly and their English is OK considering Quy Nhon standards. The rooms arent too big but they have a fantastic view from the city and the beach, particularly the ones on the 8th floor. You can also hear the sea waves down on the beach which i found pretty relaxing.
A good tip would be to get the rooms facing south side as they have a better view although unlike the ones facing north they get afternoon sun and it gets very sunny and hot.
Rooms are very clean and the bed is not hard as in other places in Vietnam and best of it was the shower which i consider it a luxury. You have a fridge with drinks and complimentary bottles of water.
Rooms dont have a locker but they have a wardrobe with key which it did the job for me although after a while I thought it was totally unnecessary as the staff sounded pretty reliable to me.
Breakfast was maybe a bit monotonous but good and the hotel is normally empty which it means very quiet. Aircon worked fine and wifi (i disagree with another review here) worked pretty good to me (remember you are in Vietnam not in Japan!). There is also a pretty big LCD tv on the rooms with enough english movies channels to watch ( hbo, etc..). Oh and there is a little balcony.
Restaurant maybe didn't have a great selection of choices but you know what? This is Quy Nhon and there are plenty of restaurants who can offer you a great selection of delicious and fresh seafood....and ridiculously cheap!
Think of Nha Trang 20 years ago and thats like Quy Nhon seemed to me.
Maybe the only downside is the location of the hotel which is a bit far from the city center but you have a lot of local restaurants if you walk along the beach strip to enjoy the local cuisine. Try anywhere the Mi sao Hai san ( seafood hot pot) for 160-180.000VND which i found it a very reasonable price as I saw other places in Vietnam charging 200 and even 300.000 vnd.
It would be good if the hotel considers to hire bicycles at some point as Quy Nhon is very friendly for cycling around, unlike Hanoi or HCMC although for a couple or 3 dollars you can get a taxi and go anywhere on the city. And last but not least Guess what? No taxi scams here! Those who have been in Hanoi or HCMC will know what I mean. Also no street vendors and no pushy people. Quy Nhon keeps its purity.
Enjoy (while it lasts) this unspoiled coastal city with very very little tourism and with one of the most friendly people i have encountered while my staying of 6 months in Vietnam.

We were here during Tet so the place was kind of running on half empty - took a while to find/get checked in but had a really comfy bed and nice view of the beach. Motorbike was cheap and reliable - well worth driving down the coast a bit for the day. Don't bother with the restaurant/room service. Seems to cater to a lot of local businessmen. Breakfast not great.

Room Tip: Facing the beach is better

One block off the beach at the far end/northeast side of the loooooooong bay front. It's 6+ kms long. I'm reading their brochure; services and facilities are many, many many! All the usual stuff, including massage and Karaoke!!!!!!You pay and they will provide. Eight floors of rooms and services. Check out the website for the numerous variety of rooms.
I had a Superior Single for 340,000 VND including breakfast mostly Asian choices but also eggs and bread/omelet and baguette and a small drink.
Their stated room facilities; air-con AND oscillating wall fan, small desk and closet, mini-fridge/bar, phone, tea and coffee in my room (I don't see it) hot water, toiletries, hair dryer and cable TV; 80 channels of which you get 3 movie and 2 “sport” and AP, TLC and Discovery. No news in English which I miss.
“Complimentary”; mineral water-two 320 ml, newspaper (Vietnamese) welcome drink and seasonal fruit? Where's the fruit?
In-room wi-fi is poor to barely fair. In the hallway I see no apparatus which means outdated, in MY opinion. Barely 2 yellow bars. Wi-fi connection, upon review/using it, is P O O R ! ! At best!
UPON further review it's b a d! Every 2 minutes it's non-existent! Doesn't work, NOT even 1 tab at a time! It is 2013 NOT 1980! Wake up! Customers are always right. I called down to front desk to “complain”, the man laughed when I told him wi-fi was horrendous. Yeah, he knows it too. At the end of my stay, 5 days, I'd say the wi-fi “connection” was as good as the old-day dial up! Not good! At all!
Pluses; N I C E soft comfortable bed, good lighting.
Business centre; 2 computers with Windows XP and little maintenance, outdated security and both are wi-fi connections. Poor or No signal strength.
Payment options; Their brochure mentions they accept credit cards-”Services Card Payments”- which unfortunately doesn't work out. I tried for two days to pay with my platinum credit card. “Machine” doesn't work they say! Swipe swipe swipe and “no connection”, “slow”. They called the bank-would you/me like to pay in cash? No! I'll try again tomorrow. Same story. Would you like to go to town and withdraw cash and pay that way? Not really. The problem is they don't want you to use a credit card. It costs them money. They don't have the “extra 3-5% charge” that many many places demand. That's not my fault. Raise your room rates to cover your bank charge IF that is your problem. Of course, that isn't the problem. Raise the rates and we're back to square one; they still want you to pay cash because it costs them money! Ridiculous! I went to town, got cash and paid them.
Their telephone, wi-fi and credit card connections need serious updating along with their computers. Of course they don't really care. It's management that is the problem. The employees are just doing their job!
Overall it is OK. I ate at the restaurant at night; limited choices for vegetarians. 5 days here. “We're” far from the bus station at Sunflowers Hotel. 4-5 kms they told me. Price of taxi to bus station will cost almost as much as next 4 hour bus ride north. Not much to see here unless renting a motorbike to explore. Relax and enjoy the lack of tourists. Still, though, we have the incessant honking by Vietnamese drivers. Beep beep!

The room was spotlessly clean with a great bathroom, soft cotton sheets and a small balcony with excellent views over the bay from the 8th floor. The room cost 350,000VND which is a bit wore than we would normally pay but was well worth it, especially with breakfast included (breakfast was a la carte not the dreaded stale hotel buffet). However, what really set the Sunflowers apart was the helpfulness of the staff. We needed to get the oil changed on our motorbikes and the security guard insisted on taking us to a local mechanic and acting as an interpreter for us. He also made 2 trips to the local garage to buy oil for us. The whole operation took about 45 mins and he refused any tip or payment for his services. On another occasion, whilst exploring the beaches to the south we ran out of petrol, by coincidence we bumped into another member of staff who drove us to the local village to buy petrol. On a third occasion, one bike had a problem with the gear box and another security guard drove the bike to a mechanic for us and back and fixed the problem for just 20,000VND. This is a fantastic level of service and completely above and beyond the call of duty.
