We stayed two nights at the Grand Hotel and we enjoyed it's character and charm very much. We had a lovely big room and often sat at the table to drink a couple of tea. The gent who serviced our room each day was friendly and did a great job, and I was particularly glad he noticed and returned some clothes I had left hanging in the wardrobe before we checked out.
As per previous posts the hotel was filled with what I assume was antique furniture and we enjoyed wandering around both the hotel which has great ambience and the lovely award winning grounds.
The wait staff, who all work incredibly hard and long hours, were fantastic. One night was a bbq buffet which was a nice change and the following night another buffet which had plenty of choices. We had lunch one day in the small restaurant and again the service and food was great. Ditto, breakfast with plenty of choice and fresh. Yes it was very busy and there were some noisy kids but don't let that spoil a lovely holiday if you can.
We were surprised that their high tea began at 3pm, rather than 11am that is usual here in Oz as it would have been too close to dinner to partake. It would have filled in a few hours for us on our second day.
For us the only disappointment was after being shown around Nuwara Eliya for 2 hours at most by our driver, we were left to occupy ourselves. (We had been to two tea plantations on the way). This we did by a good read, a few massages in the hotel which were ok, and sadly for husband, just a few trinkets from the jewelry shop also in the hotel. Perhaps we should have walked around the town more but as it was drizzling, we decided to use the time to rest up having already been in SL for ten days.
We had been to a few hotels which were very unfriendly and unhelpful. We certainly didn't find this here and in fact the day we left, one of their big rooms was full of staff being given a training session.
