“Living in the midst of breathtaking valleys”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

This review is a bit dated. We went on our Srilanka tour in April 2011 but never got around to reviewing the hotels so far. But I felt I had to let everyone know how good this place really was! So here goes...

Although Heritance tea factory can be a bit difficult to reach.. once you get there, it's sheer beauty. The hotel was originally a tea factory, hence the name. The rooms are such that you wake up to breathtaking valley views of the tea gardens all around the property... The continental fare is pretty good, as with most star hotels in srilanka. We tried Srilankan food but they say you've really gotta have a taste for it. Surprisingly, they make some mean Italian dishes!

The hotel has a small tea factory adjacent to it that they give you a tour of. If you're keen and the weather permits they even let you pick tea leaves in the traditional costume. Even our little one had a great time there with the pony ride they arranged for her.

And last but not the least, what always stands out in any hotel in Srilanka, is the warm people and their ever present hospitality. Absolutely loved our stay at this place!

The only downside to the entire thing are the prices which can be a bit steep. I remember the hotel charging us 200 Srilankan rupees for a Banana for the baby! But if prices are not a concern then I would highly recommend this place.

My husband and I recently stayed here for one night, lucky it was only the one night as we got no sleep. We were on the top floor, it was raining and sounded like a cyclone going on all night with the wind. They leave you ear plugs up on the top floor. The buffet food was enjoyable, had a different range. If you do not like windy roads and get car sick than I would recommend not travelling up here that's the one part I did not enjoy even though the view was beautiful. We rocked up early afternoon and was unable to see the beautiful scenery - freezing cold, raining, windy! But we had a beautiful view from the room and the bathroom.

My husband and i stayed at the tea factory last september as part of our ten days honeymoon in sri lanka. We reach the hotel after hours of driving, we are greeted with amazing staff and guided to a wonderful cosy room! The hotel is really quiet and you really feel you are in a tea factory, the hotel kept all the machines and put them on display. You can walk around and see new items along the way. Food is delicious, clean rooms, and great service! Loved it! Heritance hotel chains are the best!

Although the photos suggest that this is a new concrete block hotel, the reality dawned on me as we drove closer to it. The hotel is created within a previously deserted four-storey tea factory, perched on the top of a small hill. Great views all around.
And then as we entered the hotel I was speech-less for some time, unable fully to respond to the welcoming smiles or greetings as I tried to absorb the fantastic internal structures of the hotel building. It was just amazing to stay in this place, the following two days were magic.
It's only 4-star, but you wouldn't know. (I think the absence of a swimming pool was a factor). The food is great, the staff were wonderful, the rooms were beautiful (and intriguing!) We had one of the three rooms with a sit-on balcony - well worth asking for.
And, the tour of the associated mini tea factory was well worth doing, although the lady who showed us round had poor English.
Overall, a hotel experience that will live with me for a long time.

This hotel is by far one of the best places we've been to anywhere in the world. The service here is incredible, and the unique details and charm of the hotel make this place very special. I especially enjoyed the appreciation this hotel gives to the heritage of plantation workers in the area. It was also great to find out upon speaking to many of the staff that they had previously worked at the factory or connected plantation. I truly commend Aitken Spence for creating such a remarkable establishment that really makes you feel at home.

The Tea Factory was a highlight for our holiday. First of all let me praise the staff. From the managers who spoke to everyone there, to the restaurant and bar staff, everyone in the kitchen, and Kumar who had a range of roles, their attention to detail and genuine warmth and friendliness of all staff was incredible.
The food was just delicious, with various cuisines on offer. Although it was rainy when we stayed, our friend and the two of us enjoyed reading in the lounges, high tea, massages (thankyou Agung!), and exploring this beautiful place.
